How to repair cracks in a timber. I tried a simple and cheap "old-fashioned" way. I show what happened.
Cracking in timber is a very common problem. Most often they appear when the wood dries unevenly.
Such a timber with cracks looks, of course, not aesthetically pleasing.
But this is not the most important thing.
It is much worse that insects settle in the cracks, and when moisture gets in, the process of wood decay starts.
Therefore, sooner or later, almost every owner of a wooden house is puzzled by the issue of sealing cracks.
So I had such a problem. After the shrinkage of the house, longitudinal cracks formed along the timber in some places.
First I decided to try the easiest way and without hesitation, I bought a ready-made putty for wood.
He carefully covered the cracks with putty and painted the timber in the chosen color.
But not much time passed and the putty began to crack and fall out.
This option, of course, did not suit me.
Therefore, when it was the turn of painting the support pillar on the veranda, I decided to try the “old-fashioned” method of sealing cracks.
Moreover, it is simple and practically does not require extra financial costs. You only need PVA construction glue and small sawdust.
To close up the cracks, I started making homemade wood putty.
First, I poured PVA glue into the container and, stirring thoroughly, began to fill in sawdust.
Introduced sawdust until the consistency of the putty turned out like thick sour cream.
Then with a spatula the gap was filled with the prepared putty and left for a day to dry completely.
Then he sanded the putty gap with sandpaper and painted the bar. Such a putty will no longer crack.
