How we painted the wall - bright abstraction instead of boring wallpaper
If there are cats and small children in the house, the appearance of the walls will not please you for long, even after expensive repairs. Both children and cats are happy to strip the wallpaper. Cats especially love to sharpen their claws on non-woven and vinyl ones, kids keep up with them and add their own art in the form of intricate lines and plasticine blots to this.
So it was in our house. Then the children grew up a little and stopped spoiling the walls, but four cats remained ...
Particularly depressing was one wall in the nursery, on which the wallpaper had already been torn off in whole pieces. We had not yet planned the renovation, and we had to come up with something like that in order to return a decent look to the wall without special expenses.
And then we decided to just paint the wall. It seemed boring to us to paint with one color, we decided to try to make some color transitions and interesting gradients. Fortunately, now there is a huge selection of good paints and tinting pastes.
What materials and tools we used in our work
Materials
· Basic - white interior latex water-dispersion polyacrylic paint "Oreol" Discont. It took about twice as long as it was written on the bank. But there they also warn that the consumption is given for one layer. We had two. The bottom layer is just white, then the top one turns out to be even.
· Coloring pastes. We had several shades of blue, purple, green, red and yellow.
· Putty. We had acrylic, but it took quite a bit, the wall was almost flat.
· Primer. Also acrylic, deep penetration, for indoor and outdoor use.
Tools
Rollers, brushes, spatulas, paint trays, masking tape.
Working process
Preparing the wall. We cleaned the wallpaper, putty minor irregularities, primed. I recommend priming to everyone - the paint then lays down in a completely different way, much more pleasant. It took us one day to do this.
Then they quickly painted the entire wall with white paint with rollers. Masking tape was glued next to the ceiling cornice and skirting board to get an even edge.
Painted from top to bottom. First, the top of the wall (about ¼ across the entire width). Above, light tones, then more and more saturated. All this was done as an experiment - we try to add one color, see what happens. Then we add more. Etc. A very creative and not entirely predictable process. The result may be very different from the initial ideas, but, most likely, you will be pleased. By the way, the second part of the work also took one day, however, until late at night. It means only two days.
Result
Here's what happened with us.
We supplemented the wall with two matching beanbag chairs and home-made curtains to match. It has become stylish and comfortable.
Now we are going to repeat the experiment in the kitchen, and on a larger scale. We want to paint all walls, except those with tiles, and even the ceiling.
