5 secrets of the abundant fertility of Black Currant. The harvest pleases from year to year
Fragrant currant strewn with agate black berries makes me happy every season! The cultivation of this culture, of course, requires adherence to certain rules, but fortunately, I managed to achieve luxurious fruiting without resorting to harmful fertilizers! And I think it's fair to share these tips with all berry fans!
Competent watering
You need to do this 3 times per season:
· In spring, when the green mass is actively growing and ovaries appear;
· During the ripening period of berries;
· After harvest - so that the flower buds are well established for the next year.
In no case should the water be cold - this causes shock at the roots, slows down the development of currants in a given season and, accordingly, you can forget about a good harvest.
Loosening
It must be performed for the "breathing" of the root system and the full flow of water and nutrients to it.
Loosening also stimulates shoot growth. Especially currants need it in the first half of the season.
To keep the soil looseness longer, it is best to mulch the near-stem circle of currants - with sawdust, cut grass or straw.
Spring shower
As soon as the snow melts, but the ground under the bushes has not completely thawed yet, be sure to before the buds begin to awaken, I pour boiling water over the currants through a watering can with a shower head.
This procedure destroys the overwintered kidney mite, prevents powdery mildew and, most importantly, activates the processes of producing vitality in the plant.
Starch
To make the berries sweet and large, I use an old folk recipe for feeding - cheap and environmentally friendly. For this you need:
· Dry 1 liter jar of potato skins;
· Boil the peel in 10 liters of water for 20 minutes, cool.
The resulting infusion is enough for 3-4 bushes. You need to make the infusion only 1 time after the ovaries are formed.
Cold protection
Currants are traditionally considered one of the most winter-hardy shrubs. But in fact, return frosts can lead to shedding of the ovaries.
To protect your berry garden, I recommend spraying the currants with water overnight or breeding smoky heaps.
In addition, guided by my own experience, I advise, when choosing currant seedlings, to give preference to zoned varieties - since they are best adapted to local soil and climatic conditions, it is easier to achieve good yield from them.
