How to drill glass with a glass cutter

There is a proposal to drill glass with an unusual method, which, in general, is very affordable and easy to implement. You only need to have a regular cheap one in stock glass cutter with carbide cutting wheel, with whom it is not a pity to part. Well, or, at least, you can admit the thought that it can spoil a little. About drill or screwdriver I do not say, because without one of them the experiment will not work either.

To make a custom drill, the glass cutter must be disassembled and the wheel removed. Then look at the diameter of the hole in it and pick up a solid thing, from which we will make an axis-holder or a retainer.

I have not found anything better than a small 30 mm stud. I also tried to use a paper clip, but it is not enough for a long time, it bends along the way, and the video stops working.

I bite off the head of the nail, bend it in half, put on the wheel, put it in the middle and squeeze the edges of the nail tightly with pliers.

Now I clamp the wheel on the nail in the drill chuck, winding it all the way to the stop, so that the nail leg is almost invisible. In this position, he is less likely to bend under load.

The most difficult - start drilling at the desired point, since the roller is not a drill and slides heavily on a smooth and high-density surface. Here I had to practice a little to get it right.

Then we drill a bottle. I specifically chose the more difficult option. With a drill it turns out much faster. I cool the wheel periodically in water and continue. It is important that our drill is as well centered in the chuck as possible.

We check the position of the roller in the chuck several times during drilling and, if necessary, align it with pliers or reinstall it.

The edges of the hole were very smooth until the wheel began to drill through the glass, then gradually the edges began to chip off a little, and the hole as a result turned out to be not so neat, although the bottle itself does not crack at the same time.

To avoid chipping, after the appearance of a small through hole, flat glass should be turned over and drilled from the back side. It won't work like that with a bottle, so I drilled it from one side to the very end.

The sharper the cutter, the faster the hole will be drilled. I cannot say that it takes a long time, but the process is not proceeding very quickly either.
