Blackberries are perhaps the most unpretentious of cultivated berries. But she, of course, requires compliance with some rules of agricultural technology. Growing it for more than 10 years, I got used to making certain top dressing in July, thanks to which the blackberry brings a bountiful harvest of large, delicious berries.

In July, late varieties of blackberries ripen, and remontant varieties bring the harvest a second time. The most important mineral in the period closer to the ripening of the crop is potassium.

It affects the palatability of the fruit, as well as the plant's immunity to fungal diseases, which especially important in the midst of the summer heat, which increases the risk of their occurrence, especially if the summer is rainy.

My choice of potassium source is ash, to prepare a product from which you just need to dissolve 1 glass of the substance in 10 liters of water. Ash is a root dressing, which also normalizes the acidity of the soil.

If one of the gardeners dislikes ash, it can be replaced with a potassium sulfate solution, prepared from 2 tbsp. l. funds and 5 liters of water.

The second week of July is the turn of the “green cocktail”. Young nettles can no longer be found, but in principle, any other weeds will do.

Having collected an armful of such greens, I chop it coarsely, put it in a container, filling it by 2/3 and fill it to the top with water. I cover the container with a lid and leave it to ferment in the sun.

After 10-14 days, you can drain the liquid, dilute with clean water in proportions of 1:10 and water the blackberries. This fertilizer contains a lot of nutrients.

The greatest efficiency can be expected from it when applied during flowering and ovary formation.

In order for the berries to ripen large and not crumble, blackberries also need to stimulate their own processes for extracting nutrients from the earth.

A yeast solution helps a lot in this - 100 g of raw product per 10 liters of warm water. Water during flowering, spending 2 liters per plant.

I consider it important to warn you - in July, the introduction of pure nitrogen is contraindicated for blackberries. Such feeding is not only useless, but also prevents its fruiting.

Also, it should not be added either to a yeast infusion or to herbal, jam or sugar - contrary to popular opinion, the composition of dressings will not improve from this, but pests will reach for blackberries, like a magnet.
