The brick base peels off. How to prevent the destruction of brick in the basement
Brick is considered the strongest material for building a house. But it can also collapse, peel off under the influence of moisture or improperly performed work. How to stop the destruction of bricks in the basement?
A brick base is not a very good solution. If it is poorly plastering, then the material will get wet, crack and crumble. All this happens, even though the foundation is of high quality and reliable.
The brick will continue to crumble when wet. Therefore, it is necessary to eliminate the wetting factor. If there is no reliable waterproofing between brick and concrete, then brick chipping will become critical after a few seasons.
You can close the brick from the sides from getting wet. But if moisture seeps from below, then there will be no sense. A hydrophobic impregnation for bricks can help.
There is such an option - to completely replace the brick with concrete. And do not forget about waterproofing from above so that moisture does not leak from below. Or such an option is a partial replacement of brick rows, plus impregnation and waterproofing. If you can see that the brick is being poured from above, then there is a simple solution: protection from precipitation.
The weakest point in masonry is the seams. If you do not protect it from moisture during time, then whitish stripes, ice in winter, cold bridges and, as a result, destruction of masonry will appear.
Impregnation in several layers will help protect the seams and brick. Impregnation applied only to a clean and dry surface. The impregnation penetrates 2 cm. in the thickness of the seams and 1 cm. into a brick. Impregnation manufacturers assure that such protection is guaranteed for 10-25 years. Efflorescence must be removed before applying impregnation.
Then you can apply the facade plaster. To keep it firmly, use a reinforcing mesh (3 mm thick.). Fix it firmly with screws.
Some masters claim that plaster will not work. It is advised to remove what is falling off, soak it with synthetic resin. Good to use Lakhta penetrating (can be applied even to a damp surface). Then cover with polystyrene foam instead of applying plaster. Then close with decorative trim.
