Building and finishing materials harmful to health Part 3
Repair can be done nicely and cheaply, but will it be safe? Often not. The cheaper the building or finishing material, the more dangers it poses. This is especially true for modern polymers. Environmental friendliness is an important parameter, since a person spends more than half of his life indoors! What threatens our health during construction and repair - read on.
Polyurethane foam and foamed insulation
Polyurethane foam is a very convenient solution for installing doors and windows. The danger in it is formaldehyde - this is a poisonous substance. Most of it is released when the foam is still in a liquid state. After curing, formaldehyde is released when heated, for example, if a door or window is warmed up by the sun's rays.
And also polyurethane foam tends to deteriorate over time. This leads to the ingress of its small particles into the air, and, accordingly, into the respiratory tract. No further comments are needed. The use of polyurethane foam should be minimized, namely: try not to leave huge gaps during installation, relying on foam.
The same applies to polyurethane foam - insulation. It releases formaldehyde and phenol. If you do not allow this insulation to dry normally, during the operation of the room, poisons will penetrate inside, which will lead to the accumulation of toxins in the air. And this is fraught with chronic poisoning.
Both of these materials need to be allowed to dry thoroughly - the lion's share of phenol and formaldehyde should be weathered! If polyurethane foam is used locally - in windows and doors, then polyurethane foam covers the walls of the house completely and if the installation rules are not followed, the house will turn into an analogue of a gas chamber.
Enamels, oil paints
A persistent paint smell is an attribute of a newly made repair. But it also happens that the smell of paint and varnish products accompanies the home for months. Most paints are dangerous. The only exception is water-based dyes - water-based paints.
Synthetic-based paints contain substances with high volatility: acetone; toluene; butanol; solvent; butyl acetate and so on - the list can be stretched to a quarter of an article. You can also find in such paints: zinc; lead; arsenic; tin; copper - substances for the human body are not the most friendly.
But the main danger lies in the accumulation of these substances in the internal organs - this leads to diseases of the circulatory, digestive, immune and nervous systems. It should be understood that the smell of paint after repair must be completely eliminated, as manufacturers use far from rose petals and lilac flowers in them.
You should adhere to some rules when choosing paints and varnishes and working with them. First, it is necessary to avoid the use of paints with a strong unpleasant smell in the house. Secondly, when choosing a paint, you need to beware of too bright colors that are not in nature - they use the most dangerous dyes. The fact is that the particles of these dyes eventually get into the air and harm health. Third, use protective equipment when painting.
The peak danger of paint is directly working with it. The most severe poisoning occurs at this moment. Why are all the painters so funny and coughing? Yes, that's it from working with paint!
A spoonful of honey in a fly in the ointment or the myth about the dangers of concrete
You can read articles about hazardous concrete on the Internet, but to put it mildly, most of the damage from concrete comes from the ceiling. You need to start with the content of asbestos in concrete and the harm of concrete or cement dust.
Cement dust is really dangerous when working in a cement plant. And once a year, knead a couple of bags of cement in the country - there will be no harm to health. What kind of dust can come from concrete? The cement in it has already reacted and its particles do not get into the air. Concrete will exude dangerous dust if cut with a grinder or broken with a jackhammer.
Of course, concrete has a certain amount of abrasion and dust, but this applies specifically to concrete floors. Are not concrete floors or walls in apartments hidden by finishing materials? They are hidden and there is no need to worry about the presence of cement-concrete dust and asbestos in the room!
Experts also talk about the radioactivity of concrete. According to some "experts", radioactive rubble gets into concrete and irradiates the residents of the house. This was said by people not related to production. In our country, of course, there are problems, but believe me, massively crushed stone from radioactive quarries will never end up in production.
The next two arguments of the couch analysts can be equated with the delirium of a person with a serious mental disorder. First: concrete does not breathe and living in a concrete room is harmful. The person who said this has apparently never heard of ventilation and airing. But in the opinion of the same people, for example, a frame house, which is all closed with a deaf vapor barrier, breathes. A frame house is an even more airtight thermos than an apartment in a high-rise building.
The second and even more absurd misconception is that a reinforced concrete structure is an electromagnetic trap that generates dangerous waves. It is said that people in such homes are feeling sick and have trouble sleeping. It's time to put on a foil hat... This is not even worth commenting on, since the harness of the electrical wiring, which is in every house generates electromagnetic waves in the same way, and reinforcement in concrete in this case does not play a role plays.
