New type of trimmer reel: with manual line release. I explain why it is better than a semi-automatic
The coil in the trimmer did not last long. Maybe something got into the slot of the lid locks and broke the plastic, or the plastic turned out to be so fragile:
The coil could still be mowed, but the lid fell off and the pressure spring was lost in the grass. I did not find it, perhaps it flew far away. I had to buy a new one.
The store recommended a semi-automatic reel (head) for trimmers with manual line release. And here are the reasons:
- Because the line is released manually (by turning the inner part of the reel), then only you control how long to release the line. Usually up to the stop blade on the trimmer guard. If you release the line in a semi-automatic reel, then usually everything is done like this: when the trimmer is working, press or hit the reel on the ground, the line is released, and the blade cuts off the excess length. Because of this, increased line consumption.
- Striking the ground with the reel to release the line does not always go without consequences. You can also hit a sharp stone, which will chip on the plastic. At high revs, not every model can withstand this for a long time.
- I haven't tested it yet, but this model may have an automatic line winding function (when aligning the arrows on the body).
Because I have an electric trimmer with a power of 1200 W, then turn it off, put it on the ground, press the button, turn the coil 1/5 of a turn and pull out the line - 10 seconds. I stretched out a lot - I turned back. You don't hit the reel (it will last longer), the line is saved.
Now about the cons:
- In the case of the petrol trimmer, it will have to be turned off for complete safety when pulling the line. Although, at idle, the shaft does not spin.
- If you are mowing tough grass or on a rocky lawn, you will have to pull frequently. This can be annoying for someone and this is not suitable for large areas.
Of course, this comparison is economy models. Perhaps, in expensive coils, the plastic is also stronger and the design itself is more reliable and convenient. As an example: automatic reels are more convenient when winding the line. And completely metal - they are eternal (but you need to cut the fishing line into lengths and have a hexagon with you).
