How to "renew" petunias at the end of July, prolong the lush flowering until autumn (inclusive). Delov for 2 minutes
Fiery fireworks, fellow flower growers!
Do you want the petunia to proudly show its decorative look until the autumn cold? Unfortunately, by the middle of summer, she starts to look worse and worse. There is a way out - renewal, where there is no place for pity. Perhaps you will be sorry to do something with the plant now. But if you decide now, then in a couple of weeks you will see: You gave petunias a Second Life.
Why update
When I first decided to sow petunias in my flower beds and pots, I was fascinated by how well they decorated the recreation area. The guests were delighted, and I was incredibly proud of the fruits of my labors. But by July I was disappointed: my petunia was overgrown.
Flowering has almost stopped, the flowers have become small and dull, the twigs of the bushes "have become bald", stretched out and thinned. In general, my flower beds have become like a battlefield. Pruning helped to regain its former luxury.
As it turned out, this procedure, mandatory for petunias, is simply necessary for them, since it allows:
- rejuvenate a plant that, after the active flowering phase, loses its strength, especially if seed formation has already begun;
- form beautiful neat bushes;
- to intensify the growth of young greenery;
- restore the flowering of the plant.
Excellent, comrades, isn't it? And now to the point)
I use two pruning methods: gentle and radical. I choose depending on the initial data (how terrible the plant has become) and on the degree of my own determination)
Radical pruning
I radically cut flowers in hanging pots. Agree: long thin lashes with small rare flowers and an empty middle in a flowerpot looks completely unattractive.
Therefore, I boldly cut off everything that protrudes beyond the edges of the pot with the help of a pruner or scissors (or you can just break it off with your hands). And after two weeks the bushes will look quite beautiful, and after a while they will form a lush cap of greenery and flowers.
Gentle pruning
In this way, I cut the petunia in the flower beds, removing a third or even half the length of the branches so that no more than four leaves remain on them. I leave the stems with buds, but after they bloom, I also cut them off. I am mercilessly shortening absolutely everything: both the central stem and the lateral shoots.
For some time you will have to endure the shabby appearance of the flower bed, but very soon the bushes will gain greenery, and after a while they will bloom violently.
And now it's time for a little hint:
After pruning, I fertilize the petunia once with nitrogen or organic fertilizer. Then I return the usual potassium-phosphorus treat. Then the plant starts up its efforts in the right direction - the formation of new shoots. And the more shoots, the more beautiful the bush will be and the more flowers will bloom on it. A little bit later.
Try to trim your flowerbed that has lost its beauty and after two weeks, or even earlier, it will again become the center of attention on your site!
