How I turned my summer cottage into an island of serenity without killing all my free time

Everyone masters the land at their summer cottage in different ways. Some use every centimeter for their beds, others focus on beauty. There was a period when we, inspired by beautiful examples of landscape design, tried to recreate something similar. But, employment, traveling did not allow to properly maintain flowering and growth of ornamental plantings.

The question arose: how to create a landscape on the site that is conducive to relaxation and does not absorb all free time. One of the most advanced neighbors advised me to concentrate on conifers.

Junipers were the first to settle here. These were the simplest bushes, dug in the forest and planted on four sides of a small pond.

Despite the fact that they were dug at the same time and in the same place, planted in the same conditions, their development was completely different.

One of them supplies us with fragrant and healthy berries every year. Delicate green in July, by autumn they acquire a noble blue color.

The next acquisition was cedar.

He does not please us with cones yet due to his young age.

But the mushrooms feel quite comfortable under it. In addition to saffron milk caps, russules and chanterelles have been growing for the fourth year in a small area, a little sprinkled with cedar needles.

Juniper Cossack. We could not imagine that from a standard seedling it would grow so much in just four years.

Cypress - the only one of all his fellows turned out to be somewhat capricious and did not grow well until he was transplanted into the shade under a spreading nut.

The color of its needles is striking in its sophistication.

Dwarf pines turned out to be very unpretentious.

We could not find out for certain the age of the seedlings, we have them for the fourth year, and the cones set for the first time this year.

Finally, our most dangerous acquisition: medium yew and elegantissima yew.

Yew elegantissima absolutely not like a plant, in which all its parts contain a strong poison.

Medium yewhowever, too.

The main thing that we have understood for all the time since the planting of conifers is that we need to disturb them less. And then they will delight with their greenery and rapid growth.
