Water heated floor without concrete screed

When building a house, there are often project changes. Let's say you are building a house from a bar or frame. The floors are on wooden joists. But suddenly you realized that warm floors are needed for maximum comfort in the house. The most common option is infrared underfloor heating:

Cost: 200-400 rubles / r.m. with a roll width of 0.5 m. the cost of the film is 400-800 rubles / m2. Plus, thermostats are needed in each room: another 2-3 thousand. rub / piece A topcoat is laid on top of the film: for example, a laminate.

But you can also mount water-heated floors, if heating from the boiler is provided. Usually, the scheme of water-heated floors involves pouring a pipe with a coolant into a concrete screed. Not all wooden floors can withstand this load. There is a solution to how to make warm floors without a concrete screed with a cross-linked polyethylene pipe:

Insulation with specially cut grooves in it along and across the grooves is laid on the rough surface. For better heat transfer, a galvanized profile is inserted and a floor heating pipe is placed in it. The thickness and type of insulation can be different: XPS (Penoplex), foam.

Another example of installing such a system in a wooden house. To prevent damage to the pipe by the metal profile, it does not fit over the entire area, but with non-contacting segments.

A short video with the installation process. One subtlety: when mounting plywood on top of the system, you need to be careful not to pierce the pipe with a self-tapping screw.

These insulation mats can also be used for installing pipes in conventional warm floors with a concrete screed. No welded mesh is needed to fix the pipe, clamps. The use of such mats speeds up the installation process.

There are also disadvantages. In my opinion, due to the fact that the underfloor heating pipe, albeit from below, is partially insulated with insulation, the efficiency of underfloor heating with a concrete screed will decrease. The coolant will not give off heat to the screed so quickly. And in the case of a laminate flooring (without screed) - such warm floors will not be able to heat the house. The floors will only have a comfortable temperature. And it is impossible to overheat the laminate or linoleum - the yield of harmful compounds from them increases.
