The advantages of mallow in the garden, how I grow it in the country and what nuances you should pay attention to
Mallow, or stock-rose, is a favorite plant of many gardeners. Tall flower stalks and large bright plants can become an accent plant in a garden.
But in addition to beauty, I also singled out for myself the functional advantage of the flower: mallow is ideal for decorating ugly building facades or fences. Therefore, this option will appeal to those who do not like to use vines.
But in order to grow mallow, you need to know some of the nuances concerning this plant.
The first thing to know is that mallow is a biennial plant. This means that if you sow it in open ground in the spring, this summer it will only gain green mass, and will delight with buds only the next year. But if you really want to see flowers this year, use the seedling method. The bush will not be so strong, but you can admire the splendor of the flower.
When choosing a place for a plant, you should always rely on where it originally grew. Wild mallow grows in dry, open and sunny places, which means that any stock-rose variety should not be planted on heavy and damp soils.
And the last tip: if you want to make the mallow perennial, after it blooms, you must remove all the peduncles so as not to allow the seeds to set.
And of course, do not forget to apply complex mineral fertilizers - they will provide the plant with the necessary nutrients and give the plant "strength" for long-term growth.
These are my main tips, following which any novice gardener can grow this beautiful plant on his site. Have you tried growing a stock rose?
