Prickly little thing: why it is necessary to have a cactus. My 25 years of experience

My fascination with potted flowers began in childhood. And one of the first plants to decorate a child's room windowsill, became a cactus. A few years later, I was already a whole collection of cactus, which I was very proud. And you know, love to these thorns, did not pass even with the entry into adulthood.

Today I share their own experiences of growing cacti, and what did they sank into my soul.

Why should you start a cactus

unpretentiousness. It is, as for me, the most important advantage of cacti. My biggest mistake in taking care of flowers - forget to water them in time. So, it's not scary for prickly pets. So we became friends with them. Sometimes even went on vacation for 2-3 weeks, I shall water before leaving, coming, as they are, as if nothing had happened. Therefore, if you have the same problem as me - safely cactus plant!

A minimum of effort to care for. Many indoor plants need constant care and attention: they need the right lighting, timely watering, spraying, specific humidity and temperature, change several once a year. But this is not a cactus.

Of course, if you give him time, he will appreciate the luxurious appearance and flowering. However, if you have any other things to do and care, and time is almost no thorns, they will not be wasted. In frequent transplanting cacti do not need too. I'm your transplanted every 2-4 years.

compact dimensions. Cacti usually do not grow very large. So you do not have to search for them huge pots or think, where do you find in the room free angle to the flower. Also from the cactus, you can create different compositions and combine them with other small plants.

interior decoration. Neat decorative pot with spines on the windowsill always complement the interior in minimalist style (as well as in any other style).

But the most memorable moment, which I always look forward to it flowering cactus. Some varieties flower opens just for a day, while others are pleased with the bright colors of a few weeks.

And it is not true that the cactus blooms only once a year. For example, typical cactus that can be found in many homes, produce a large arrow with pale pink or snow-white flower.

With proper care of the shooter at a time can be dismissed a few, but for one year cactus blooming pleased me 5 or 6 times. The secret is simple - wintering cool (15-17 degrees), the meager irrigation during this period and sunny, even hot place in the summer. I took out my cacti to the street, and pots buried in the ground, while not forgetting about the timely watering as the soil dries.

Looks nice from the computer. I heard that the cactus absorb harmful radiation coming from the monitor. No scientific evidence for this is not found. Yet at the computer cactus feels great, it grows well even in the absence of strong light. This makes it ideal plant for the office, which will make a piece of natural beauty in the boring everyday work.
