China conceived the construction of a giant power plant in Earth orbit
The Celestial Empire has seriously thought about the use of a super-heavy rocket under development Long March 9 to assemble a huge solar power plant not just anywhere, but directly in the orbit of our planet.
This became known from the material published on SpaceNewswhich refers to the official statement of the general designer Long March 9 L. Lehao.
New ambitious plan and its implementation
So, according to experts, the implementation of such an ambitious project will allow receiving electricity 24/7. and at the same time there will be no interference in the form of undesirable weather phenomena and various atmospheric phenomena.
It is assumed that the energy received in orbit will be redirected to the Earth through the use of microwave transmitters or special laser installations.
So, according to the roadmap, this technology will begin testing as early as 2022, and by 2030 the orbital installation of megawatt power should be fully operational.
And it is expected to reach the production level of 1 gigawatt in China by 2050. So, according to preliminary calculations, in order to lift into orbit about 10,000 tons required for the assembly of an orbiting solar station, at least 100 successful launches of Long March 9 will be required.
At the moment, the relevant departments are discussing the economic feasibility of implementing such a project, as well as various security issues related to this project.
Well, despite the fact that at first glance the project seems fantastic and practically unrealizable, observing how fast it develops the space industry in China (which is only a rover, its own orbital station and the lunar soil brought in), you involuntarily think that they have everything work out.
Well, we will follow the pilot tests of the megawatt installation and the fate of this project will be clearer based on its results.
