Thuja dries up? I tell you how to help a beautiful Tree

Thuja is a wonderful plant that I use for landscaping the site. My plan was to create a beautiful evergreen hedge.

But suddenly the plants began to turn yellow and dry out. It took a lot of time to restore the plants, but the result was worth it. Today my bushes grow well, and delight with a beautiful and rich color.

Causes of yellowing of thuja

1. Low temperatures. Very often trees or shrubs darken and turn yellow before the onset of cold weather. These are features of some varieties, but with the onset of spring, the plants resume their color and continue to actively develop. In such cases, do not worry.

2. Environmental conditions. If thuja is grown in a pot, do not change its location too often. Also, thuja does not like excessive moisture and direct sunlight.

If the shoots of the plant have begun to turn yellow, then first of all it is worth paying attention to the conditions in which it grows.

3. Natural aging. The lower branches periodically die off. Such branches should be removed in a timely manner so as not to spoil the appearance of the plant.

4. Intense lighting. In early spring, the sun's rays can bounce off the snow. As a result, the lighting intensity increases significantly. Burns may occur on the surface of the shoots, which appear as yellowness.

To fix the problem, it is enough to cover bushes and trees with burlap or agrofibre. If the plant is large, then it can only be covered from the sun.

It is also important to ensure that the plant has access to air. When burns appear, the plant should be watered more often.

Serious diseases and ways to eliminate them

Fungus

Thuja is susceptible to diseases such as rust, late blight, and brown shoots. If a disease is detected, all infected shoots should be removed, and then the plant should be treated with preparations containing copper or "Fundazol".

If an unpleasant odor comes from the plant, then the fungus (most often late blight) has already affected the root system. I dig up diseased plants by the root and destroy them outside the site.

I also treat the soil with special preparations, for example, Bordeaux mixture. Periodically, as a preventive measure, I treat the plants with antifungal drugs.

Pests

Often, a magnifying glass is needed to locate insects that parasitize the plant. Large colonies of insects are quite capable of destroying a young and healthy plant.

If small cocoons are found on the needles, which are fixed with a cobweb, then this is a leaf roll. To destroy the pest, the plant is treated with insecticides in the last month of spring, and in the first two months of summer.

The false shield is a small round insect up to 3 mm in size. Despite its small size, the colony of parasites easily destroys an adult tree.

You can just peel them off the branches and bark, but if there are a lot of false shields on the plant, then you should treat the bush or tree with an insecticide. As a preventive measure, immediately after the snow melts, I wrap the trunks with several layers of burlap.

Thuja can also be affected by wireworms, aphids, spider mites. In the fight against pests, in addition to an insecticide, treatment with an infusion of garlic or a soap solution will help.

Particular attention should be paid to the roots. The soil around the plant should be periodically dug up, fertilized and peat should be applied. Also for the winter, plants are covered.
