Puzzle rugs for children
How safe are the popular puzzle rugs for children now? Let's figure it out!
In stores, I noticed only two types of these rugs - EVA and PVC!
The toxicity of PVC has been proven for a long time, I think there is no point in discussing it again, so such rugs are CATEGORALLY IMPOSSIBLE to take!
Now about EVA-ethylvenyl acetate-a composite material made from oil, which contains neither chlorine, nor phthalates, nor bisphenol, which makes it safe, unlike PVC!
However, formamide may be present there!
In 2011, dangerous concentrations of formamide were found in one batch of children's rugs imported into Belgium by unscrupulous Chinese manufacturers.
A possible reason for the dangerous content of harmful substances in this batch of rugs is the use by the manufacturer of an unacceptable amount of low-quality foaming agent. This way you can get more EVA foam and reduce costs.
French experts studied production technology and product samples and allowed the sale of EVA products for children up to 36 months.
According to the conclusion of the commission, the rugs may contain traces of formamide, but at a concentration of up to 200 mg / kg it is absolutely safe for the child.
In 2015, the experts from the Chemical Substances subgroup of the European Commission made a decision: “EVA toys with a formamide content less than or equal to 200 mg / kg are absolutely safe”. The Australian Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (ACCC) and the Consumer Product Safety Agency have tested 16 different EVA products. In half of the EVA toys tested, no formamide was found. And where it was possible to measure it, it was extremely small and absolutely safe.
Expert conclusion: "EVA foam mats and toys sold in Australia do not expose children to formamide and are safe to use." But this is Europe and Australia! In Russia, the situation is completely different and our market is simply flooded with low-quality Chinese products, the safety of which is a big question!
As for me, I will not buy such a rug! You can get by with a thick bedspread or cotton rug! When the baby begins to walk, the need for him will disappear altogether!
