Spanish craftsman continues to amaze: plywood router for the domino system
The portable slotting device can be very useful in the small home workshop, and is the most famous industrial device for this type of task can be called a milling cutter for the DOMINO system from FESTOOL, but it is also the most expensive: now it is more than 100 thousand rubles from the official representatives FESTOOL
Perhaps it is precisely because of the high price that craftsmen around the world create homemade devices, like analogues of this expensive equipment.
I propose to get acquainted with a similar device for a router from a Spaniard Suso Caamanho.
This device allows you to make precise grooves from 6 to 12 mm wide, up to 42 mm. length and 40 mm. depth. A groove can be made at a distance of 35 mm from the upper stop. Accordingly, the part can be up to 70 mm. width.
For slotting a groove, it is enough to mark its center.
The principle of operation of the device differs from its industrial counterpart. The milling of the groove is done in the traditional way: stepwise and by moving the cutter from edge to edge of the groove, only the entry of the cutter will be in the center.
The movement of the cutter is obtained by turning the handle on the upper clamp to the right - to the left.
That is, the upper clamp is set according to the markings and remains in place during operation, and turning the handle makes the router move left - right parallel to the workpiece.
The depth of immersion of the cutter is set by a stopper in the handle. This stopper has three positions and the groove is formed in three passes, each time the cutter plunges deeper and deeper.
In addition to the grooves, this device can also punch holes for dowels. Such holes are also made according to the marking, the line is drawn in the center of the hole, and drilled immediately to the full depth.
The design of the device is made for the use of an edge router. A well thought out guide system and slot depth adjustment. You can also adjust the width of the groove, and the mechanism for moving the cutter to the right - to the left has springs that return the cutter to the center of the groove.
In more detail, the work of the device and how it was made can be seen in the video clip below, as well as on the website of the Spanish master of this link.
In general, this device, in my opinion, looks well thought out and provides good accuracy.
This is not the first time I talk about the master's works. For example, there was previously a publication about a hand-held plywood jigsaw.
And there were also materials about a universal plywood machine.
And about a homemade 3D router.
Thanks for reading. I would be glad to have your support in the form of a like and a subscription to the channel. And see other publications on the channel.
