How to solve the problem of rainwater flowing into the chimney. Self-made device with your own hands.

I never thought that when installing a finished pipe with a cap on a chimney, I would encounter such a problem as rainwater flowing into it.

Initially, as soon as liquid began to appear in the chimney, I thought it was condensate.

But one day, after a heavy downpour, when water poured through the pipe into the furnace, there was no doubt.

The culprit of the liquid flowing down the pipe is cap.

The fact is that in diameter it corresponded to the pipe itself and, as it turned out, of this size not enough to prevent leakage in heavy or oblique rain.

It was necessary to solve this problem as soon as possible. after all, water not only destroys the oven from the inside, but also impairs cravings, which can lead to carbon monoxide poisoning.

Finding a ready-made cap of the right size is quite problematic, so I decided to make it from what was at hand.

A piece of galvanized iron just came in handy for this, and a bucket was perfect as a template.

I put the bucket on a sheet of galvanized iron and traced its bottom along the contour with a pencil.

Then cut out a circle according to the markings using scissors for metal.

Then I found the center of the circle with a pencil and tape measure.

And cut the workpiece along the line, as shown in the photo below.

He brought the edges of the workpiece one over the other so that cone.

And gradually tightening the workpiece, I fixed it to the existing cap with the help of roofing screws.

This problem did not bother me anymore.
