A proven way to get a wet stone effect. My example of painting concrete pillars

In 2019. for painting concrete parts of a fence with a decorative surface "washed concrete" opted for stone varnish TM "Chief Technologist". The varnish is liquid enough to be absorbed into the concrete structure and durable (based on epoxy resins):

Glossy varnish (there are other shades, but they were not delivered by the supplier). In order for the varnish to penetrate even deeper into the structure of the concrete, and to obtain a thinner film on the stones, as well as to reduce the glossy shine, I added a little solvent 646 (nitro-based varnish).

He has already painted the concrete part of the front fence:

For a year, nothing peeled off, the shine remained semi-matte. Therefore, there is no desire and time to experiment with something. I will add that all water-based acrylic varnishes and stone primers will not give you such a "wet stone" effect.

The metal posts on my fence are finished with concrete slabs made using the "washed concrete" technology. A year ago I wrote about this technology in a number of articles. Who cares - scroll down the channel's articles. The second photo shows a painted and unpainted part of the concrete. The appearance of the concrete surface changes immediately after painting.

The fence posts made of profiled sheet are decorated with the same decorative overlays. But not all, there are still about 10 pillars left to finish. There is no time to cast them yet.

Of the minuses - the seams between the concrete pads are now more visible.

View along the fence. The varnish dries very quickly, you need to apply quickly. And after 5-10 minutes you can touch the surface.

Close-up view of the painted pillar. Somehow they wrote to me in the comments that such narrow decorative pillars do not look, it was necessary to make them wider. Perhaps, but one of the main reasons why I started this whole process is that the paint on the poles peeled off after a year. They had to be cleaned and re-covered with something. These are processes comparable in time. I decided to make it exclusive, to give the fence a contrast.

The plinth of the woodblock for the sauna is covered with tiles with the surface "washed concrete". There is also a significant difference with the unpainted surface.

In one of the articles in the comments, they also wrote that any colorless alkyd impregnation for wood is suitable to give a similar effect to "wet stone". Checked for 4 cm2 posts (but colored) - it works, survived the winter, did not peel off. The price is comparable to this varnish.

The same decorative surface “washed concrete” is waiting for its time to be painted on the foundation of the house. But first you have to wash it from aerated concrete dust.
