Old paint removers with a phenomenal effect. And recipes for their manufacture

click fraud protection

Sometimes you need to repaint parts that have old paint on them. You can simply paint over with a second coat, but the result will not always be guaranteed. Over time, paint may peel off. there is no good adhesion between the old and the new layer.

You can mechanically remove old paint: grinder with a brush attachment or sandblasting. But it takes a long time, sandblasting from third-party organizations is expensive, and the result from the grinder is not very good.

I came across a video where some liquid is applied to the car body, and after a while the paint itself moves away from the metal:

As you can see, the following effect occurs:

The paint swells and flakes off the surface of the part.

I wondered what kind of liquid it was. It turned out that many manufacturers of paintwork materials offer such means:

Products not based on acids, but based on solvents. Some products are gel, which is convenient when applied to vertical surfaces (does not run off).

As you can see, the products can be used for body repair and car body repainting. But, as far as I have seen, most auto repair shops work in the old fashioned way, they remove the old paint mechanically: grinders with abrasive wheels.

Probably, after such a wash off of the old paint, some of it remains on the surface. It is washed off with a safer solvent: white spirit or solvent 646.

You can also make this paint remover yourself. The recipes are well known. Here are a few:

Turpentine + ammonia (1: 2), quicklime + potash (potassium carbonate) - 2/3 + 1/3, chalk and 1/5 of caustic soda to it. Or just ammonia with turpentine, in a ratio of 2 to 1.

After application, wait 20 minutes, then remove the paint with a spatula. In order not to leave scratches - with a wooden spatula.

Another way is to stand in hot caustic soda (sodium hydroxide or caustic soda). In a simple way - any remedy for blockages, cleaning sewer pipes.

Detail before and after processing. Rust and paint fall off. But you need to be careful with aluminum parts. They are oxidized by caustic soda.
