I no longer use Expanded clay and Polyurethane foam! I insulate the foundation with foam
How to insulate the foundation
Styrofoam is used to insulate the foundation from the side of the street. This is a lightweight material that retains heat well. It is not susceptible to the formation of fungus and mold. If the foundation is deep, then you need to dig a trench.
Then sweep the wall from adhering earth and dust.
In the places where the formwork is installed, sagging is often formed. It is advisable to clean them with a perforator, since the protruding parts of the concrete will interfere with the bonding of the heat material.
Some masters recommend nailing a metal profile along the bottom of the foundation. It must be screwed to the wall with screws into dowels, or shot. The metal profile is necessary so that the mice do not gnaw through the foam from below. The width of the profile shelves depends on the thickness of the foam. In cold regions, it is better to use foam with a thickness of 8-10 mm.
The same picture shows that the brickwork is not flush with the foundation wall, but goes deeper. The foundation thus protrudes 2-4 cm. And in order for the facing material to lie flat, each foam plate must be cut to the size of this recess.
Styrofoam can be cut with a hacksaw, but it is better to do it with a knife, because the material crumbles from the teeth of the hacksaw.
It is desirable to treat the wall with Penetron before facing with plates. This substance, penetrating into the concrete wall, seals the micropores and then prevents moisture from penetrating inside. Then it is necessary to prime the wall in order to increase adhesion with the adhesive composition.
You can continue to work only after the applied impregnation has dried.
Some craftsmen glue the sheets with adhesive solutions in the old fashioned way. Although, as practice shows, glue-foam is more economical, it is more comfortable to work with it, and less time is spent.
The example of this photo shows how the sheet is cut off if the foundation base is with a ledge.
So we glue our sheets of heat-insulating material onto the adhesive foam. According to the instructions, after applying the glue to the sheet, you must wait 5 minutes. In the meantime, the waiting time passes, you should moisten the wall with water so that the glue crystallizes and sets better.
If there is room for a small piece at the exit to the corner, then it is better to move the sheet to the edge of the corner so that the insert is between two sheets.
The corner will turn out solid, and the insert will be somewhere deep in the wall.
If about half the length of the sheet goes to the corner, then in this case, you can measure the length of the required piece, cut the sheet along the mark, and start the next side of the wall with the remaining half of the piece.
The next stage of work is foaming the joints. We foam the joints with the same gun that applied the glue foam, we just use a plastic tip that gives a thin stream and penetrates into all the small cracks.
After the foam has dried, cut it off with a knife.
The next step is to plaster the insulation sheets to protect them from ultraviolet radiation. First, a PVC corner is applied and fastened on top. It is needed in order to hold the plaster on the heat material.
For gluing the corner, you can use the Ceresit adhesive. First, a solution is prepared, which is applied to all corners - horizontal and vertical. Then, as the adhesive solution is applied, the mesh is laid.
An adhesive solution is again applied over the mesh and leveled with a spatula. Sheets of material will also be reinforced with a rolled sect and plastered.
