I advise you not to waste time, but to sow healthy vegetables in August in order to have time to collect the Harvest. I tell you what I planted
August is the harvest time for most gardeners. But in my opinion, when some crops are removed, it is inadvisable to leave the beds empty, when before the onset of the real autumn something can still grow on them! Based on personal experience, I decided to advise what you can sow in August!
Cabbage can be sown early-ripening varieties, bypassing the seedling method, directly to the beds. It is important to consider that such vegetables are not suitable for long-term, that is, winter storage.
But on the other hand, the last harvest of cabbage can be used for pickling, pickling and, of course, used to prepare delicious seasonal dishes! In my opinion, in August, cabbage of all varieties feels best when planted after onions.
Such varieties of cabbage as Pharaoh, Express, Transfer are exceptionally good for August.
Early maturity in August pleases lettuce - it can be removed when only 4-6 leaves are formed. The culture does not require special care, but it is imperative to generously water and loosen the beds with salad. The varieties Zhar-Bird, Rubin and Crunchy Vitamin are distinguished by a short ripening period.
August carrots, like cabbage, do not have a good keeping quality. But I really don't know what this is connected with, but only her late harvest invariably ripens very juicy and sweet for me. Perhaps the point is in the daily temperature fluctuations. I can recommend the Amsterdam and Vitamin-6 varieties.
Radish, ideally, should be planted after cucumbers and on the most fertile soil - at the end of the year, this vegetable becomes "demanding". The radish beds should also be sunlit as much as possible. Delikates and Sudarushka varieties grow remarkably in the second half of summer.
If you sow beets in August, they will not produce large fruits, but they will be tender and sweet. What you need for seasonal cuisine!
It is interesting that the beets planted at this time germinate and develop a little faster when compared with their planting in May-June. A good choice can be the varieties Incomparable, Slavyanka, Cold-resistant-19.
Spinach is perfect for August! The fact is that cool nights brightly contribute to the development of this culture, the accumulation of vitamins in it. Having sown spinach this month, unlike the hot summer, it does not need to be shaded. Its varieties Krepysh, Matador and Gigantic are good.
