Self-supporting arch bridge over a stream or ravine, designed by Leonardo da Vinci
A bridge in the country house (suburban area, in the village) is necessary in the case of arranging landscape design or for access to the other side of a ravine, stream, small river (it happens that they block the path from the site to forest):
In landscape design, a small arched bridge looks very beautiful over a dry stream (or otherwise - through an equipped drainage for water drainage when snow melts and downpours). But not everyone will be engaged in the process of bending the boards into an arc.
To do this, the boards need to be steamed in a similar homemade steaming chamber and then, fixing one end of the board, bend into the desired geometry, fixing with clamps and self-tapping screws. Or order two arched boards in the carpentry workshop (if they know how to do it).
Another option to make a small decorative arch bridge is a wooden block bridge. We cut out "blocks" from a bar, make an arched support and lay them out where necessary, sawing. We repeat the second span with the same dimensions. From the inside, the blocks can be fastened with nail plates for reliability.
This design was used to make stone bridges and arches in brick houses. The bridge can also be made of a horizontal structure, from the same timber. But the arched looks much more interesting ...
The third way on this topic is an arched bridge based on a drawing by Leonardo da Vinci:
His drawing is on the second slide. Everything new is well forgotten old. In any case, concrete supports must be poured under the bridge. Otherwise, the soil at the support points will move and the bridge will sag.
The article Self-supporting recirculating roof for the gazebo. Design by Leonardo da VinciI showed the roof structure, which can be performed according to this principle of supporting the beams one on top of the other.
The bridge has a low material consumption and can carry heavy loads. The disadvantage in this bridge design is the protruding longitudinal beams, because they should go under the transverse. It is more difficult to make flooring on them. To eliminate the bulging of the longitudinal beams, they can be fastened with dowels:
A close-up of the dowel is shown in the second photo. But the longitudinal beams must rest against the transverse ones. And the transverse ones are fixed on the longitudinal ones. Otherwise, the bridge will not be stable. In this case, this bridge is assembled without any fasteners. The Leonardo da Vinci bridge is also called the bridge without nails.
In some places you can find such constructions:
Another option for a self-supporting arched bridge made of boards of low material consumption:
A farm is made of planks here. The bottom boards play in tension. The upper ones are in the form of an arch; under load, they abut against the concrete base along the banks. No need for timber or logs, props for them. Such a bridge can be assembled together in 1-2 days (with pre-poured supports).
Well, do not forget to treat the tree with antiseptic and decorative impregnations. You can make them yourself according to these recipes: Wood impregnation recipes. Manufacturing cost - from 20 rubles / liter
