5 things I no longer do in my Garden to avoid wasting time
Old habits or inertia “it should be done”, “everyone does it” are bad helpers in the garden. Some actions take wasted time and energy, and they are of little or no benefit.
I am talking about 5 such things that I refused to do in my garden and did not lose at all from this.
Change the acidity of the soil on your site
It is impossible to radically change the initial acid-base balance of the soil. If some crops stubbornly do not grow in the garden, perhaps this is the whole point.
It makes no sense to diligently "adjust" it to your needs - it is still unrealistic to do this, the pH of the earth can only be changed temporarily and insignificantly. Vegetables that don't grow for this reason are easier to buy.
Watering your garden too hard
Lack of watering can be a problem for plants. However, some summer residents, like me before, try to prevent this and go to the other extreme - intensive and abundant watering even for those crops that do not need it.
In the best case, they get more lush foliage, and the yield of vegetables remains unchanged. Everything needs a measure.
Grow plants unusual for our latitudes
Exotic is pleasant, interesting, other gardeners will envy. However, in most cases, experiments with growing plants unusual for the middle lane end in failure.
As a rule, it concerns thermophilic fruit crops. Providing them with the right conditions is sometimes possible, but this is too much trouble.
It's easier to buy unusual fruits in supermarkets, and in front of other gardeners you can boast of a good harvest of more familiar crops.
Break vegetable beds in the shade
Garden crops need good lighting. It is pointless to try to increase the yield by expanding the space allocated for growing them - they simply do not will grow well in inappropriate conditions, as a result, a lot of effort will be invested, but there is little result in the output. It is better to plant shade-loving flowers in shaded areas of the garden.
I do not use chemicals against insect pests
Purchased chemicals are quite expensive, especially if the garden is large and many plants are required to process.
And the desired result from its use is far from always, and it is scary to use it - it is not known how this will affect the fruits.
I collect pests by hand, with gloves, and, for example, I stopped fighting ants at all.
What have you stopped doing over time?
