Do not cover the bath with foil: problems and harm to insulation
A good bath heats up quickly and retains heat for a long time. To achieve this, many insulate the ceiling and walls. Foil is usually chosen. But as an insulator, this material is useless and even harmful.
Foil helps to reduce heat loss in the steam room, to reduce the time for heating. But is it? Why, then, the house is not covered with foil to save heat?
Usually a thin layer of foil is used, which is applied to insulation or kraft paper. Material reflects infr. radiation (up to 97%).
pros
So, a bath with foil cools down more slowly and heats up quickly. This is all true.
- Foil - vapor barrier: protection against steam and water. All steam remains inside the bath. Air does not pass through the foil. But this is the same as steaming in a tin can!
- The durability of the material is undeniable. Will serve up to 100 years. Even with the greatest heating, the material does not deform.
- The material absorbs 80% of sounds and noises. Does not burn and does not support combustion.
Minuses
Disadvantages are also important to consider. If you fix the foil on a cold wall, then the material will manifest itself negatively. It is imperative to use an additional insulation layer between the wall and the foil.
- Condensation forms on the surface of the foil. This can be the cause of damage to the finish or the growth of fungus. Experts say that if you make a ventilation gap between the clapboard (other finish) and the foil, this will not happen.
- After some time, the foil corrodes. An oxide film is formed on its surface, which will lead to a deterioration in reflective properties.
- There is the opposite effect that foil gives. When heated, it gives heat in the bath, and then towards the street. This can be avoided by the same vent. The gap between the foil and the bath wall.
There is no point in foil for those who do not save on fuel and who do not care about long heating. There is no benefit from foil if the bath is sufficiently insulated with other materials.
The absence of foil makes the steam softer and there is no sharp water hammer. For example, logs of a bath without foil smooth out temperature shocks well.
Aluminum builds up in the body. This has a bad effect on a person's condition and well-being. The metal builds up in the lungs and affects them negatively. Remember also about aluminum cookware and why almost everyone refuses to use it. When heated, aluminum cookware releases metal ions. When eating, aluminum gets inside.
