Why is the Chinese planetary mixer better than its expensive fancy counterparts
There are mixers of different price categories on the market:
- Most advanced and feature rich - Kenwood Cooking Chef. This is a whole mini-factory. In addition to the classic functions of a mixer, this device can cook soups, temper chocolate, make Italian pasta, grind food, unless it flies into space. This is the highest price category. Such machines are on the tables of all eminent chefs and pastry chefs. I would love to buy one, but it's expensive. Therefore, the option with the purchase of Kenwood was eliminated immediately.
- Less advanced but just as expensive - KITCHENAID. They are beautiful, in a variety of colors. But in reality, the price is more about the brand value than the coolness of the product itself. They break no less than their cheap counterparts. KITCHENAID was also set aside.
- Economy class mixers. They are available from both Russian and Chinese manufacturers. I chose between KITFORT and STARWIND. The first is produced by a company from St. Petersburg, the second is cheaper and made in China. Taking a closer look, I did not see a fundamental difference in functionality, besides, the Russian version looked less stylish and was more expensive. I bought a STARWIND SPM5183 planetary mixer.
Why STARWIND is good:
- Compact. All attachments are placed in the bowl; it does not take up much space on the shelf.
- Stylish. It has a very attractive appearance due to its streamlined shape. I chose the color bronze. Its coating is matte, and fingerprints are noticeable on the device, which is more glossy than the model.
- Powerful. The cream whips very quickly, the whites turn to foam in 20-30 seconds.
- Splash proof. The mixer comes with a transparent cover to protect it from splashing. This is convenient when working with large volumes. It has a hole for additional loading. Those who make marshmallows or bake pasta know this is very important.
- Big bowl. Volume 5.5 liters, which is less than some other mixers, but its good shape (wide from the base) allows you to load large batches.
Cons of the model:
- The attachments do not reach the end of the bowl. There is a small gap between the bottom and the whisk, which means that small portions, such as one egg white, cannot be whipped.
- Weak body. During complex work, such as kneading dough for bread, the device vibrates strongly and crackles, it seems that it is about to break. So far, I have served six months with daily use. I hope this is not the limit.
- Hook shape. Dough hook not very good shape. With a tight dough, he just winds it around himself, and does not knead.
Overall, I am happy with the mixer. For his 6,000 rubles, he does the job perfectly.
Have you tried working for STARWIND and Kenwood Cooking Chef. How different is the latter in work and does not repeat the shortcomings of the Chinese friend?
