Phytophthora-resistant tomato varieties that I will definitely plant next year
Late blight is a disease that affects tomatoes in the garden and significantly reduces the volume of the crop. The most favorable conditions for the development of a fungal disease are excessive humidity, low temperature and lack of sunlight.
But it so happens that from two bushes growing very close, one feels normal, and on the other late blight spreads with cosmic speed.
The thing is that there are varieties that are more resistant to diseases. When growing such plants, the number of treatments is minimized.
The summer resident has a chance to grow not only a bountiful, but also an environmentally friendly harvest.
De Barao
They are tall plants with small fruits shaped like a plum. There are several varieties with different fruit colors, but they all have the same qualities.
De Barao varieties, regardless of the fruit variety (black, pink, red, yellow, variegated), are rarely affected by late blight.
Also, if the disease still affects the plant, then often it is localized in one place and does not spread further. Fruits of this variety are resistant to cracking and keep well.
Waterfall
This tomato variety ripens very early and requires special conditions. Plants require a trellis garter. They also need to be pinned.
The peculiarity of the variety is the brushes with a large number of fruits. Each of them can have up to 10 tomatoes. This variety ripens very early and is well suited for canning.
Raspberry Giant
Disease resistance, high taste characteristics, as well as large fruits made this variety one of the most popular among gardeners.
Up to 6 large tomatoes weighing 300 g can be tied on one brush. The bush is not tall, but strong, it can easily support a lot of weight.
The fruit is pink and sweet without excessive acidity. Suitable for preparing fresh meals or starter cultures.
Dubok
One of the oldest varieties, cultivated during the Soviet era. Its reliability has been tested by time. Bushes are strong, hardy. Plants are not tall, reaching a height of 60 cm.
One m2 can be harvested from 5 to 8 kg. Tomatoes are small, lay well, transportable. Can be used for salads and homemade preparations.
But the most important advantage is early maturity and resistance to various diseases. Sometimes this variety is found under the name Dubrava.
Japanese truffle
You should not expect record yields from this variety, but I leave it because of its high taste (really very sweet), as well as its phenomenal resistance to diseases.
Even in the wettest summer, this plant will yield a harvest. The height of the plant can reach 180 cm, but as a rule I do not let it go above 150 cm, I pluck the top.
There are several variations of the variety with different colors of fruits - gold, orange, black, pink, red. I leave two main shoots on the bush, pinch off the rest. Keeps perfectly in cool conditions.
