Garlic in my family goes with a bang - soup or canning, and so on. This spicy culture is always present on the table. And at my dacha he will give birth abundantly. What do I feed the land with before the autumn planting - I will answer everyone who wants to.

Organic or chemicals?

I feed the garden as complex, industrial fertilizers, and also use organic matter. And I'll start with organic matter - manure and ash.

If you are a categorical supporter of organic fertilization, then either ash or manure is added to the garlic beds.

I must say right away with regard to manure - it is forbidden to bring fresh. Only rotted - a bucket per square meter, or half a bucket of compost. Ash also acts as an excellent fertilizer - it is recommended to apply it together with compost when digging the earth or directly into the garden.

I advise from my own experience to add ash solution under the already planted garlic. It is simple to prepare a solution - 1 tbsp is taken per liter of water. l. ash and 2 liters of such fertilizer will be enough per square meter of planting. Ash is rich in trace elements, and as a result, my onion heads grow large.

But what about industrial fertilizers?

Mineral, industrial fertilizers also have a positive effect on the growth and development of garlic planted for the winter, the development of heads. And I will say from my own experience - it is optimal to introduce superphosphates and potassium salts for the winter.

So it is potassium that helps to form a powerful and strong root system in garlic before the first frost. They are brought in a month before the onset of the first cold weather, while the soil is still warm, which will allow the plant to winter well. But superphosphate fertilizers will allow young plants to accumulate strength for full wintering.

With regard to the application rate of this type of fertilizer, they are all presented per square meter.

· Superphosphate is enough to add no more than 30-40 grams to the soil, depending on the nutritional value of the soil composition;

· Potassium sulfate or other potash fertilizer - it is enough to add no more than 20-30 grams, again it all depends on how poor in minerals the soil is.

Important to remember. It is forbidden to apply nitrogen fertilizers such as urea or ammonium nitrate for winter planting. And the whole point is that they stimulate the growth of green mass, and this leads to a weakening of the plant, which is undesirable before winter. These fertilizers are recommended to be applied only as part of spring feeding.

After the soil has been dug up, fertilizer is applied and evenly distributed - the bed is leveled, and so it is left until the autumn planting of garlic. As a rule, I carry out such work one and a half to ten weeks before the expected planting of garlic before winter.
