In any farm where there are livestock, you will certainly need a deck for chopping meat. Let's briefly tell you: how to make a professional cutting table for cutting animals and poultry; deck care methods; product advantages.
What's good about it?
Let's start with the main thing: the answer to the question - what is this stump for? You can chop on a board or on a cardboard, but this is not a way out of the situation. Firstly, sanitary standards are violated and the meat can simply get dirty; secondly, there is a great likelihood of injury when swinging an ax in an uncomfortable position. This will not happen on a special deck. Such a thing is needed not only for farmers, but also useful in the country or in any household farm.
How to make a meat chopping table
The point of the cutting table is that it has an elastic wooden surface where the ax cannot be stuck. This factor prevents meat particles from penetrating deep into the wood structure. In simple words - the deck will not start to rot after the first cutting of the meat, as it will happen with ordinary hemp.
There are two types of such products:
- from hard wood - oak, beech, ash;
- from soft hardwoods - elm, poplar, linden, aspen.
Conifers are not used for the manufacture of decks, as they emit resin.
Hardwood
Hard rock cutting tables are manufactured as follows.
- A part of a raw tree trunk 0.8-1.1 m high and 0.6-0.8 m in diameter is taken.
- The bark is removed.
- The upper part with the help of a saw turns into a kind of flattened hemisphere.
- The lower part is aligned.
- On the upper part, at a distance of 5 cm from the upper edge, a metal ring 4–6 cm wide and 3–5 mm thick is tightly installed.
- The ring is sealed with wedges driven between the barrel and the metal. It is possible to make a ring with a threaded tightening system, then the sealing takes place by tightening the nuts.
- Legs are mounted to the bottom. The simplest option is two 50 * 50 mm bars fixed parallel to each other. Slightly complicated is the welded construction. The legs are needed so that pieces of meat do not fall under the deck and do not rot there.
- The side and legs can be painted or varnished.
Hardwood decks have one drawback - difficult maintenance. The fact is that any wood from regular blows with an ax is produced, crumbled. After a while, it will have to be removed with a plane or cut down, and hardened oak or ash is a problem for the tool. Not every chainsaw will take it. In production, a professional tool is used and even it does not run for a long time. If you repair such a deck with a household electric saw, you can be left without an expensive tool. Planers with a capacity of less than 2 thous. Watt also won't cope.
Soft wood
If you use a more accessible, soft wood, he needs to create a solid working field. The algorithm for making decks from soft rocks is almost the same, except for wedging. In this case, after ringing, it is necessary to seal the working surface with wedges.
Ideal for wedges: birch; oak; beech; ash. The length of the wedge is 10-15 cm, the head is 5 * 3 cm. The number of wedges depends on the wood species and structure. For example, a poplar deck with a diameter of 0.8 m can take 200–250 pieces; for the same diameter, but made of elm, 70–150 wedges are useful.
They are hammered from the middle with a spiral to the very edge. For such work, a heavy sledgehammer with a long handle is used. The density of the wedges is calculated, as they say, according to the circumstances - if they enter, you need to score; begin to break - you need to retreat 3-5 cm from the place where the wedge does not enter and drive further. It is necessary to stop work when the wedges do not even go into the edge of the deck.
At the end of this procedure, you need to level the work surface with an electric plane. After leveling the surface, the deck is ready for use. It is worth considering here that the planer blades will cut across the fibers and a powerful tool will be needed, at least 2000 watts. It is not necessary to buy it, you can rent it for one day to make a cutting table.
Care
After work, the surface of the deck must be thoroughly cleaned. An ordinary spatula or knife is suitable for this. After cleaning, the surface is sprinkled with a thin layer of salt: it will not allow the remaining meat to decompose, which will prevent an unpleasant smell from the cutting table in the future.
When the working surface is worn out, you need to do prevention: remove the worn out top layer with a plane. Such procedures can be carried out no more than 5-7 times. It is in order for the working surface to have an increased resource that the upper part is made in the form of a flattened hemisphere.
When the resource is fully depleted, the product is overhauled. To do this, you need to remove the ring, file with a chainsaw, put on the ring, wedge it, level it with a plane. At the same time, the height of the deck will decrease, which will require building up the stand - you can fill a row of a bar on an existing stand.
