How to quickly and free of charge to replace a broken outside handle of a plastic balcony door

A standard plastic balcony door on the outside is usually equipped with a plastic handle-brace or as it is popularly called "smoker's handle".

It is made entirely of plastic and therefore inevitably breaks.

In this case, you can go to a hardware store, buy a new one and screw it on. It will cost less than the gasoline spent on the trip. However, after a short time, it will break again. In this case, you can look for the same, but made of more durable ABS plastic. After about a year, due to exposure to sunlight, the ABC plastic will lose its strength characteristics, and the handle will break again. There is an alternative - a metal shell handle.

It is almost impossible to break it. Usually the screws that hold it to the plastic frame are pulled out by the roots.

To avoid the above-described troubles, you can make a "smoker's pen" in five minutes without spending a penny. This will require an empty plastic bottle, such as a polypropylene milk bottle, a screwdriver, and scissors.

It is necessary to remove the label and cut off the bottom and the neck of the bottle with scissors.

Fold the resulting cylinder as shown below. Press the folds with the scissors handle.

Fold again, pushing the edges in the same way. Attach the rest of the broken handle as a template, cut the workpiece to size with scissors.

Use a knife to turn the holes for the screws, placing the workpiece on a thick magazine.

Bend the new handle slightly and insert the screws.

Screw the resulting product into place of the broken handle. Done.

It will be impossible to break such a handle, because, with excessive effort, it will simply slide off your fingers. It will not deteriorate from the sun or temperature extremes. Such a handle will last longer than a plastic door and the home as a whole.
