What I do with Clematis in September and how it Stimulates beautiful flowers to bloom next year

I suggest that you familiarize yourself with my personal experience of September care for clematis, universal for all types.

I begin to prepare for wintering in September.
All summer bloomed beautifully, the color was abundant and wonderful, it was time to carry out the necessary measures before wintering, so that next year clematis would please with a lush and wonderful color.

September requires special care of the plant, and my activities this month with clematis consist of several points:

• Watering.
• I apply autumn fertilizer.
• I spray against pests.

Watering

If the warm autumn is successful, then I continue to water my flowers, but not so often. After a hot summer, watering is necessary: ​​to strengthen the root system, and to keep the soil warm.

Top dressing

Autumn feeding is a guarantee not only of lush spring flowering, but also the maintenance of young shoots with nutrients. After the stormy summer season, you need to nourish your plants with a complex mineral fertilizer, of course, without nitrogen content.

I do it in two stages:

At first: I do not weigh fertilizer, so I measure everything by eye. On a bucket of water I take a handful of superphosphate, a pinch of boric acid and one and a half tablespoons of potassium magnesia.

Sometimes I use herbal infusions, add a little ash and river sand there. And if the weather is rainy I put this mixture dry.

Secondly: I pre-remove the leaves and make a deepening. I pour a bucket on each bush, or even two humus.

They are very fond of this "hat", it will help not only protect from cold weather, but also feed the plant. In the spring, I rake a little humus and they, wonderfully preserved, begin to come to life.

Treatment from infection

The most important thing is to take care of spilling it from fungal diseases. I always do this and never neglect disinfection. The fungus is always on the alert and tolerates the winter perfectly, lives, affecting the root system.

How I do it:

• I take a bucket of water and add Fundazol, Bordeaux 1% mixture is also suitable.
• I spread and water in a circle at a distance of about half a meter from the stem of clematis.
Excellent prevention against fungus.

Pruning

For pruning, I expect the weather to cool until the end of September. The first year of planting, what kind of clematis was not, I do the pruning, I leave thirty centimeters. Even in the second year, I cut off clematis in order to strengthen its root system.

For my “seasoned gardeners”, I use universal pruning, it is suitable for all groups. What is it: I alternate pruning of shoots, I cut off one to 30 cm, the other I leave a meter and a half.

This combined method has several advantages:

1. The plant is completely rejuvenated.
2. The method is universal for all groups.
3. The whole plant will bloom next season.
