What kind of potatoes I select for Seeds and I advise everyone. 3 Essential Traits of an Excellent Yield
Good day, dear readers! Today I would like to share with you a little personal experience that helps me in agriculture.
I will teach you how to choose the very best seed potatoes that will produce an excellent harvest every year. This method of choice was suggested to me by one of my friends.
It turns out that there are certain signs that will help determine the level of future yields.
The first sign: Russian variety
It is Russian varieties that grow best in our country. They are adapted to our climate, tolerate sudden temperature changes well and give an excellent harvest.
By maturity, they are divided into the following points:
1. Medium early.
2. Mid-season.
3. Mid-late and late.
Personally, I always buy mid-season varieties. I sow potatoes in early May, and already in mid-August I have a ready harvest. If the summer was not too warm, then I dig out the tubers in September.
By this time, they have finally strengthened, therefore, they will be able to lie in the basement for a long time.
The second sign: the mandatory presence of a quality certificate
If you plan to grow potatoes for more than one year, then be sure to ask the seller to show the quality certificate.
This is a kind of potato passport, which contains the following data:
· Tubers size and shape;
· Name of the variety;
· Quality of reproduction;
· Batch number;
· Harvest year;
· Address and contacts of the supplier.
It is best to purchase potatoes from specialized stores. Grannies on the market will definitely not have a quality certificate.
The third sign: perfect shape and small size
Never buy large planting potatoes. As my personal practice commands, such a tuber can rarely give a good harvest and most often rots in the ground.
The ideal length of the planting material is 6 cm. Tubers should not be too large or too small, medium length is preferred.
Examine tubers carefully before purchasing. They should be free of any scratches, chipping or other visible damage. It is worth paying close attention to the presence of dark spots that rot slightly.
If there are any, then the potatoes are definitely not suitable for planting. Purchase only smooth, high-quality specimens that do not have sprouts.
I hope my advice will help you in your choice. A rich harvest!
