Peony is an unpretentious plant. It does not need much maintenance and grows well in any area. But in order to get a beautiful and lush flowering next spring, it is worth dealing with the plant immediately after flowering.

Summer feeding

After the petals have crumbled, the plants begin to accumulate strength for wintering. It was at this time that buds with peduncles are laid in the plant. Therefore, the first time fertilization is applied 15 days after the end of flowering.

I use bird droppings for this purpose. First, it must be diluted with water in a ratio of 1:25. I leave the container in the sun. The content should ferment for approximately two weeks. After the expiration date, I add 100 g of ash and 30 g of superphosphate to the bucket and stir well so that the fertilizer dissolves.

I mix fertilizer with water. For one part of the finished liquid fertilizer, I give three parts of water and feed the bushes.

You can also use mullein or other dung. In such cases, 2 liters of mullein are given per bucket of water. The mixture is infused for 2 weeks, and then half diluted with water and applied under the bushes.

But poultry, especially chicken manure, gives the best result, since it contains more nutrients.

It is worth remembering that excessive consumption of chicken droppings can lead to the death of the plant. Peonies or other crops will simply burn. This should be used with great care.

During this period, you should not apply fertilizers containing nitrogen, since this substance contributes to the development of the ground part of the plant. The peony will grow and will not be able to form full-fledged buds for the next year.

Also in the summer, after the end of flowering, I put 20 g of potassium and 15 g of phosphorus under each bush. Excessive amounts of any fertilizer can provoke unwanted growth.

Subsequent spring feeding

The first top dressing in spring is done immediately after the snow melts. For one bush, I give 20 g of potassium and 15 g of nitrogen. The next time fertilization is applied at the moment when the buds are formed.

For one plant, I do. 15 g of potassium, 20 g of phosphorus and 15 g of nitrogen. All mineral fertilizers are diluted in 10 liters of water and poured under the plant.

Do not forget that all dressings are made only after rain or abundant watering. If the soil is dry, then the plant will simply turn yellow and die.

Secrets of lush bloom

To get huge and lush flowers on the bush, during the period of bud formation, I remove all lateral flower buds on the stems. I leave 3-7 central buds on one bush (depending on its size).

Peony stems can only be cut after they have turned yellow and died. At this time, the root will take absolutely all the nutrients from the leaves. Pruning too early can cause the shrub to become weaker and prevent flowering.

If the peony does not give the desired flowering for several years in a row, I advise you to transplant it to another place.
