How to bleach white plastic frames of household appliances that have turned yellow over time
Plastic frames for various household appliances and electronics are commonplace today. Quite often, they are performed in white, which turns yellow over time, under the influence of heat and light rays.
This shade gives the printer or air conditioner an unkempt, aging look. The color changes deeply in the structure of the plastic and a simple wiping will not work to return the former exterior. To do this, you must use one of the available recipes.
Purchase the required amount of hydroperite from your nearest pharmacy and dissolve them in water in a ratio of 200 tablets per 1 liter of water. Yellowed plastic parts should be soaked in the prepared solution; the more they become tarnished, the longer they need to be kept in the solution. The method is suitable only for small parts, because it is inconvenient to soak large elements, but a very large amount of hydroperite will be needed. To replace it, you can use hydrogen peroxide with stabilizing additives, for which you also have to walk to the pharmacy.
Pharmacy perhydrol is used as an active element in the next method. Prepare more laundry soap, gloves, and powdered bleach. Take a container that is suitable in volume for placing the parts to be bleached into it, and prepare a solution. Its ingredients are perhydrol, stain remover and a small amount of bleach. You should not overdo it with the latter, because the foam formed by it, in large quantities, will complicate the work.
Having previously washed the plastic element of the frame with laundry soap, put it in the prepared solution. For greater effect, you can illuminate a container with a submerged plastic with an ultraviolet lamp. Just beware of thermal reaction and make sure that the solution does not get on the skin, use rubber gloves.
You can also rub the surface of the part with a damp cloth sprinkled with cleaning agent. It is safer, but gloves must still be worn to avoid irritation.
An effective method is to soak the plastic in chlorine bleach. Old Whiteness is great because of its aggressiveness. After soaking, the frame element is wiped with a brush or steel wool, onto which a cleaning agent is sprinkled. The surface can then be polished for added effect.
There are times when monitor glass cleaner or industrial alcohol was used as a cleaning agent. The latter is a highly aggressive cleaner that strips off a thin top layer of plastic. Such properties of technical alcohol require care and accuracy when working, and it is not at all easy to get it. Therefore, the method is controversial.
