The plot in the country is small, I dug 3 bags of large potatoes. Now the challenge is to keep it as long as possible. There is no cellar. I live in an apartment. But, sometimes, until spring, the potatoes remain fresh and do not spoil. I will share my secrets.

For storage, everyone is accustomed to using the cellar, basement, underground. But what about us, city dwellers? The apartments have few storage spaces: a balcony, a pantry in the corridor, a refrigerator under the window (in Khrushchevs).

You need to dry the vegetables well, but not wash. The most important thing is to select tubers of early maturing varieties. They are not stored for long, they can lie until November, and then they will deteriorate. Therefore, first of all, you need to eat these varieties of potatoes.

I store the selected early maturing varieties under the sink in the kitchen. I really like this option. Only I didn't have wooden boxes, so I use cardboard boxes. I put newspapers, sawdust or white office paper on the bottom (I crumple it in my hands). Then I put the potatoes. This is how it is stored under the sink.

I have 2 secrets for long storage: I put the beets with the potatoes.

It draws out excess moisture well. This prevents the potatoes from spoiling. The second trick: I put activated charcoal (several pieces) in a box with potatoes.

Then I change from time to time for a new one. Sometimes I shift the tubers with dry mint sprigs.

By the way, you can store it in a plastic bucket or a basin under the sink, but make holes in them in advance. This will ensure air circulation so the potatoes will not rot or turn green under the sink.
