In the summer, each of us enjoys the raspberry harvest, its sweet and aromatic taste.

We bake pies, make jam, roll up compotes. But this time passes very quickly and autumn comes, it's time to prepare raspberry bushes for winter. This process may not be difficult, but multi-step.

I will share my autumn activities, which I never miss and my raspberries give a good harvest every year.

It is imperative to wait until the raspberries finish the fruiting cycle, there will be no green berries on the branches, and if they are, they should be already dried up. We start with the soil and roots of our favorite berry.

Soil and roots

Over the summer, I water the raspberries quite often and therefore the earth is washed out. The roots of the bushes appear on the surface. You can't leave it like that for the winter.

1. We remove weeds.During weeding, the earth will be saturated with oxygen and this will have a more favorable effect on the wintering of raspberries.

2. Then you need to mix the earth with a small amount of natural fertilizer and insulate the roots.

Sprinkle on top with a layer of sand or sawdust. You can use any other organic insulation. In the spring, it will give the soil friability and looseness. With soil and roots finished.

Young shoots

What you need to pay attention to next.

During the season, young shoots have grown, which, together with an adult plant, simply will not survive the winter. We transplant them to another place and next year they will bring some raspberries, but they will be noticeably sweeter, larger.

We insulate them more thoroughly for the winter. We cover with rags, and then with a spruce tree (spruce branches) to keep them warm.

Preparing bushes

Now the most important and responsible work.

Over the summer, the shrub usually grows not only to the sides, but also in height. In the fall, it is important to cut the tops of each branch so that the stalk remains about a meter from the ground. After cutting, you must remove all dry foliage.

It does not need to be thrown away, but can be used as a shelter to other beds or shrubs. The result is a smooth raspberry hedge.

While we were pruning, we noticed that there were a lot of old, withered bushes. They need to be cut right at the root. There is no sense from them, and harm to other raspberry branches.

Well, almost everything is ready for winter.

One little thing to do. If we see that the bushes are sitting densely, they need to be thinned out and transplanted to the garden bed where the young shoots were planted. For the winter, these bushes are applied to the ground and are insulated together with the young.

We tie the old raspberry branches together in a bunch of three bushes. If the bundle is not very dense, then you can wrap it in a cloth to strengthen it from the wind.

The preparation of raspberries for winter is over. There is nothing difficult, but if this is not done, then in spring and summer we will not enjoy the new harvest of raspberries.
