Is it worth buying energy saving windows? Our experience, how we spent the winter with them

After our new house was erected under a roof, he spent the first winter with the windows covered with wooden boards. We decided to install the windows in the summer.

The reasons why we did not put windows in an already finished house right away

We did this for three reasons.

At first, so that the shrinkage takes place, although the foundation is on three rows of blocks, and the walls are made of aerated block, faced with brick. Nevertheless, over the winter and spring, some millimeter displacements will still occur and there was no point in risking expensive windows.

Secondly, I wanted the house to freeze, ventilate and evaporate some of the secretions that are in any case from new building materials and mortar. That is, so that there is less chemicals in the house after it becomes airtight.

Thirdly, and this is one of the main reasons, there was simply no money for windows, and we did not want to get into loans. During the winter, we expected to save some money and buy what we wanted.

Learning the theory

We had no doubts that we would buy windows from a good company, and not from random local manufacturers. We were taught this by our own experience, when the apartment was worn out with such windows and replaced them with branded ones, after which we enjoyed using them.

Going to the website of a store selling windows in our city, we saw that in winter they have various promotions and good discounts. Especially attractive discounts were for energy-efficient windows. And we became interested in what it is. Plastic windows are called energy efficient because they maintain a microclimate inside the house, heating costs are reduced and the inside does not fade from the sun in summer rooms. This is important for us, since the house was built with windows to the south.

Such properties of windows acquire due to the fact that their frames, glass units and fittings are specially made for these purposes.

Since we live in the Urals, we immediately decided that we would order five-chamber double-glazed windows. They also have soundproofing properties, and there is a busy street not far from us.

A special coating on the inside of the glass does not interfere with the penetration of light, but reflects all the heat into the room. It is invisible to the human eye and does not change the appearance of the windows.

And we ordered such windows, they are 15% more expensive than ordinary windows, but due to the winter discount, this difference was compensated for. And in May, according to the contract, the windows were delivered and installed to us. In addition, they also made an additional cashing in a corner as a gift, and foam and any other technical flaws are not visible anywhere near our windows, foam does not deteriorate from light and, of course, is warmer.

How We Winterized

Honestly, it is difficult for us to say why it was warm in our house in winter. Thick walls, good insulation of the attic, warm floor, energy-saving windows - everything in the complex allowed us to carry out finishing work in winter at a liquid temperature of 30 degrees on the boiler! Only 30 degrees, and it was quite comfortable to work in the house - about 18-20 degrees. Of course, we would not live at such a temperature; we obviously increased the temperature on the boiler, up to about 37-38 degrees. But this is incredible, because our friends said that they set at least 50 degrees on the boiler for a comfortable living in the house.

Therefore, I recommend everyone to study this issue and not spare money on innovations for their home. They will pay off!
