Advice

For permanent residence, it is reasonable to insulate outside. Reasons: The heat capacity of the stone wall and the absence of a dew point in the walls contribute to the living comfort and durability of the walls, respectively. For the summer cottage, which you will go to on the weekend, insulate it this way or that way. One plus in internal insulation: quick warm-up. All the rest are cons.

When insulating a house, do not listen to illiterate builders, and even before starting work, carefully read the recommendations on insulation, understand the use of materials, with the methods of their fastening, protection. Sit a little, paint the layers, calculate the dew point, the efficiency of the work. Then count the money. Compare with the cost of heating available now, and decide: what, how, how thick.

My personal opinion and experience

In our time, there can be little insulation. Everything will be repulsed very quickly, which will be invested in insulation, taking into account the growth in the cost of energy resources. Personal example convinces better than any calculations, but I actually achieved an increase in the energy efficiency of my home.

Briefly about your home

We bought our house not insulated, from a bar of 150 * 150 mm. The purchase was made quite deliberately - uncle was tired of paying for a rented apartment. The first winter, heating costs were prohibitive, although the winter was much milder than this one. In the summer, due to a lack of money and time, they managed to insulate outside only the basement part with a half-meter approach to the walls, and the attic part above two of the three upper rooms.

Specific heating costs have dropped dramatically! The floors in the house are warm. They began to sleep peacefully in their own bedroom, and in the first winter lived in the living room, because the expenses convinced them of such a necessity. For this summer, the plan: to complete the insulation of the walls in a circle, if we have time, then we will ensure beauty; no - we will go into winter without plating. We will finish the beauty later.

The goal we are heading for is to achieve a minimum of heating costs and maximum comfort. At the same time, we are absolute supporters of beauty, but only in combination with reasonable expediency. If beauty is an end in itself, then what's the point of it?
