The key to a good harvest is fertile and solid soil. But we mercilessly use the resources of the garden land, planting vegetables and flowers every year. Plants spend a lot of nutrients for development, a set of green mass, flowering and, of course, abundant fruiting.

The effective restoration of soil fertility is not an easy task. The nutrient reserves of the soil consist of two components, inextricably linked to each other. These are mineral and organic resources.

It is important to maintain balance. A vegetable garden generously seasoned with mineral fertilizers, but left without organic matter, will never give a stable and exemplary crop. This must be accepted as an axiom.

There are a variety of mineral fertilizers on sale. But that's not the only way

With minerals everything is clear and simple - in the spring I bought Nitroammofoska, in August I scattered the Osenny granules. It's harder with organics. The need of summer residents to comprehensively restore fertility makes them erect compost heaps and order carts of scented manure.

Not "unnecessary roots", but a gift

This, of course, is all good. But, removing annuals with roots in the fall, the gardener deprives his garden of additional organic matter, and himself - of facilitating work. Therefore, I personally act differently and am sure that I am doing everything right.

Cabbage legs are also left in the garden

I advise you too, because:

  • During the winter, remaining in the ground, the roots rot perfectly. It turns out pure humus. And he is a valuable organic fertilizer, obtained, in fact, without labor and without material costs. Why miss this opportunity?
  • The second aspect of the method's benefits is not obvious, but it is equally important to improve fertility. Root particles left in the ground attract earthworms. In early spring, when the inhabitants of the soil begin to be active, they will thoroughly loosen the earth. And easy access of air to the roots is the key to the successful growth of any garden crop.
Some gardeners go further - they bury the green part of the plants in the ground. But this can be done only if you are sure that there are no diseases and pests.

Whatever one may say, but the roots of one-year-olds, left in the garden and flower garden for the winter, bring tremendous benefits.

And now a few words about how to do everything right

When the ground part of the plant dies off, it is cut off. I, comrades, are not in favor of leaving the stems and leaves in the beds. After all, this is a breeding ground for fungi and pests, moreover, it looks unsightly.

All flowers and vegetables are used. May it benefit until the end

Plant residues will also benefit. For example, by becoming an ingredient in a compost pit. When dried and burned, they turn to ash - another great fertilizer.

And the roots - the roots remain in the ground. They will not spoil the pictures of the garden in any way, because they are not visible. If desired, the beds can be dug up in the fall, at the same time chopping the roots, but still leaving them in the soil. In spring, as a rule, no trace remains of old plants. And the enriched land is full of health and is ready to give the summer resident a generous harvest.
