What fittings for the tank are not worth buying
Some sets of fittings for toilet cisterns initially cannot meet our expectations due to design features. An improper configuration of just one part leads to flooding of neighbors or a constant fight against leakage, the nature of which is not easy for the user to establish on his own.
Here's just one example. Recently, we had to replace a set of fittings that only served a year. And all because one of the seals does not match the size and shape of the hole on the toilet.
The picture above shows a similar kit, with a large O-ring light brownbottom right. As you can see, outwardly it is straight, does not have a cone or other change in shape. When installed between the toilet and the cistern, it simultaneously acts as a shock absorber and a sealing ring.
But during installation, it is easily squeezed out to one side and it is deformed. Since it is only slightly larger in diameter than the inlet at the top of the toilet, it can easily fall into it.
Even if the seal is initially installed normally, later it often gradually slides to the side and water begins to flow out from under the tank to the floor. At first it is a few drops, and then whole puddles appear.
The photo below is an example of such an unsuccessful seal, which was jammed, and then it dried out in this position. It is impossible to straighten it. I tried to do it manually or by heating. I also tried to cut it a little in height in order to remove the most spread out part, but this did not help and I had to replace the drain kit.
For myself, I decided that kits with similar seals are not worth buying, but you need to look for those with the sealant is porous and soft, and its size is such that it excludes slipping or displacement. Even if he snags a little, nothing will happen. And if a rubber sealing ring is included in the kit, then it should have a shape similar to a conical one, go into the opening of the toilet bowl and remain stationary for any accidental displacement of the tank.
What kind of ring is included in the kit can be understood even before buying, since usually the fittings for the tank are sold in transparent plastic bags.
