How to make firewood burn 5 times longer: the secret to bookmarking firewood (50% fuel saving)
Anyone who has stoked a stove at least once knows how quickly firewood can burn. This often happens to me when I heat the bathhouse. It seems like I'll put a good heap of firewood, but they burn out instantly and do not give heat. We have to put it on to comfortably wash in the bath.
So, another topic on the RemontDom channel is how to make firewood burn longer, to increase heat transfer to the maximum. We have already written about eternal log, look if interested. But there is another equally effective way.
First, I would like to say that the burning rate and heat transfer also depend on the type of wood. Non-dense wood burns quickly, dense wood emits a lot of heat and smolders for a long time.
High density in acacia, ash, plum, boxwood. Medium density in oak, birch, pear, larch, apple, beech, maple. Low density in pine, poplar, linden, aspen, spruce and willow.
In the grate furnace, oxygen enters the hearth abundantly, which leads to intense combustion. Along with excess air, heat goes away. Therefore, many people use the bath-free stoves. In such a furnace, the fuel burns out completely and, as a result, there is little ash. Ash has to be cleaned every six months. The wood stove does not need a grate. For example, it was not in the Russian oven.
Only later did they begin to do it with the grate, when they started burning with coal. The main condition for such a furnace: at the bottom of the furnace there must be a layer of ash (at least 90 mm), otherwise the bottom will burn out over time.
I have had a grate stove in my bath for a long time. How to be in such a situation?
I learned that a standard pile of firewood (10-12 pieces) in the stove can radiate heat and burn with different indicators. The secret was shared by my friend, who lived in the village for half his life. I now use this method all the time to reduce my wood consumption. Firewood burns 35-55% longer and at the same time gives off a lot of heat.
As a rule, firewood is set on fire from below. Paper or birch bark is placed in the center or below and set on fire. This method helps to kindle and burn the wood very quickly. Most of the heat is lost to the pipe.
Decision: You need to change the method of stacking and lighting firewood. First, dry firewood (thicker) is stacked from below. 3-4 large logs are enough.
Stack as tightly as possible. Place thinner (medium) wood in the middle. From above it is even thinner (chips with birch bark).
The point is that you need to set fire to the top. Fire smoothly, slowly goes down to medium firewood, and then to large ones. This method stretches the combustion process. The smoke is not even visible from the chimney. This suggests that all the firewood burns out completely. One armful of wood in the stove will burn for about 3-5 hours.
