Collecting cucumber seeds - getting ready for the next season

The harvest season is rapidly drawing to a close. Despite this, a new time is coming - the time to collect seeds. This responsible process will largely determine the yield of the next year. Today we focus on the correct harvesting and storage of seeds with a cucumber.

In order to collect seeds from cucumbers - give preference to extremely ripe fruits. They should not be ripe millet, but overripe in the literal sense of the word. We recommend leaving such fruits in advance so that they have time to really ripen in the sun. Also, label which fruit you plan to use for seeds so you don't accidentally pick it.

Pick only yellow and soft cucumbers for seed production. They are designed to reproduce the crop in the next harvest year.

Please note that not all cucumbers are suitable for harvesting seeds. So, the planted seedlings F1 are completely unsuitable for collecting seeds. These crops are annual, and their seeds are empty.

Storage

After you call the cucumber, cut it in half and carefully collect the seeds in a container. After that, the container is covered with a lid and kept at room temperature for about a day. After the specified time, fill the container with water. Further, you can see that suitable seeds for further planting will settle to the bottom. After that, the seeds of the cucumbers should be passed through a sieve, and thoroughly rinsed and dried.

However, immediately remove seeds that are too small compared to others. Also, do not store seeds that shine through in the sun, because they will not germinate, and, accordingly, will not give any harvest.

It is best to store cucumber seeds until next year in paper. It will allow oxygen to pass through, which will not dry out the seeds.
