Waterproofing for roofs, foundations (does not crack, does not burst at minus 40): 3 ways to make a bituminous primer
If you properly protect the foundation from moisture, dampness, then you can ensure the durability of the entire building. Bituminous waterproofing on concrete, metal, wood forms a waterproof film. The film on the surface clogs the pores of the base.
Bituminous waterproofing is used due to its low cost, lack of seams, simple preparation and application, resistance to low temperatures (over 40 grams). There are ready-to-use mixes on the market, but they are expensive. It is better to prepare a waterproofing mixture with your own hands. It will be cheaper.
For example, in Leroy Merlin piece of bitumen (25 kg.) Costs about 800 RUB It is used for the manufacture of bituminous varnish, mastics, etc. They are used for waterproofing building structures made of concrete, steel, wood, brick, stone, etc. They are also used for roof repair and waterproofing.
3 ways to prepare your own waterproofing compound
1. In the first option, you need to split a piece of bitumen and put it to heat in metal container on a fire or with a burner (heat from below). Do it faster with a roof burner (5-10 min.).
Bitumen is boiled in the open air until the first boil, and then removed away from the fire and cooled a little. Pour gasoline, kerosene or diesel fuel into the bitumen in a thin stream (carefully). This should be done very carefully, wearing gloves and moving away from the container with bitumen! The composition will begin to boil and smoke slightly. Poured in a little gasoline, mixed with a wooden stick and then pour in. Some do not recommend using diesel fuel - the composition will not be homogeneous.
Proportions: 2 parts gasoline or kerosene to one part bitumen. It is allowed to dilute and 1: 3 (bitumen: kerosene).
2. The second method is safe, but long. You need to chop pieces of bitumen and fill them with gasoline or kerosene. Stir from time to time. Once the bitumen is dissolved, apply to the surface for protection.
Solvents evaporate and the primer on the surface turns into a thin film. You can add a little to the mixture used engine oil. They say that then the bitumen will not crack over time. But such a composition will also dry out for a long time (about 2-3 weeks).
3. Take a piece of bitumen, split it into pieces and fill it with gasoline. After a day, mix everything thoroughly and add PVA glue. This is necessary for better adhesion and waterproofing.
The proportions are as follows: for 200 grams of bitumen, 100 ml. gasoline, 50-100 ml. PVA.
