DIY construction vacuum cleaner-cyclone from a bucket
In construction work indoors, in the workshop, a lot of small debris appears: shavings, sawdust (worse when they are metal). Sweeping is not the best option - it all clogs in the cracks. The best way to clean up is to pick up the debris with a construction vacuum cleaner. The vacuum cleaner is also useful for tools during their work: for a jigsaw, router, circular saw. In the presence of attachments - and for a grinder, wall chaser, perforator. Prices for an inexpensive model:
But its filters are quickly clogged with fine dust. You can use an old household vacuum cleaner (if someone does not have the one you need lying around). But its filter clogs up very quickly, especially since household models are not designed to collect a large amount of dust or sawdust. And if there is no vacuum cleaner? There is a way out, quite budgetary and effective. You will have to do a little work with your own hands, and before that, purchase a few spare parts:
In the advertisements we are looking for the sale of used engines from vacuum cleaners. Prices for them: 200-500 rubles. The cost of a new one is 2000-2500 rubles. The main thing is to check the performance on site and the integrity of the impeller. If a pair of blades is broken, its efficiency drops sharply.
Next, you need a bucket of paint. Iron or plastic. Better iron with a volume of 20-25 liters. These used buckets are often sold by paint companies.
You can also use plastic buckets, but then you need 2 buckets with attachments one above the other (with a cut out bottom at the top and a lid at the bottom).
Cut a hole in the cover and fasten the engine tightly. In order to close the engine, you can use plastic paint containers. Only in it you need to make slots for free air exit through the engine.
We attach the air filter from the UAZ car to the engine turbine from below, having previously closed the lower part of the filter with a thick cloth:
Filter cost 100 rubles. For better filtration and easier dust removal, the filter can be placed in a cloth bag.
Further, in the side surface of the bucket, you need to drill a hole for a pipe (for a sewer pipe) 50 mm:
The branch pipe is needed angular so that the air sucked into our cyclone moves tangentially to the vertical surface of the bucket, swirls in the bucket. The dust will lose speed and sink to the bottom. You can put a piece of corrugated tube (from a flexible sewer) 20 cm long inside the bucket on the branch pipe and fix it at an angle downward along the inner perimeter of the bucket.
Further, the wiring and its insulation for the electric motor, the switch. As a cyclone hose, you can use an old hose from a vacuum cleaner or a corrugated sewer plastic pipe (but it is not durable with frequent bends).
All coarse dust will settle in the bucket, and fine dust will be filtered by a filter. This homemade product is large enough for the volume of dust and debris. And if the engine power is 1800-2000 W, then it is efficient. The cost of manufacturing a cyclone vacuum cleaner, subject to the purchase of used spare parts, is within 1000 RUB This is just one of the options.
If you have an unnecessary vacuum cleaner, then in just 15 minutes such a cyclone can be made from three sewer elements and an iron bucket. The manufacturing process is shown in a short video:
Almost free version of the cyclone nozzle for a vacuum cleaner.
A slightly more complex vortex principle is shown in this version of the cyclone manufacturing: https://www.drive2.ru/c/480747166667636755
And the third option for collecting dust and shavings in the construction process is the purchase of a cyclone nozzle for a bucket:
Name: cyclone SN50T3. Also sold on aliexpress. The cost is only 130 rubles. below. Link on the nozzle on aliexpress.
It is installed on the bucket lid and all the dust is poured into it. The nozzle has a more efficient geometry for swirling and settling debris.
