How to install plastic blinds yourself. What makes them different from metal
Recently I installed blinds, but not custom-made, but ready-made, bought to fit the window. These are not often found, but still found. The sellers assured that they no longer carry similar ones, but, apparently, they were mistaken. These blinds are made of plastic, except for a few details: gears, hook, etc. They are selected with a very small step in length (5 cm, it seems), so in most cases you can find exactly the ones you need.
To determine the correct size of the blinds, the seller asked to name glass size and started from it, choosing the most suitable option. All models are longer than necessary in length, they can be shortened if desired or left as they are.
The kit includes a pair of fasteners, the correct position of which determines the overall success of the installation. They can be attached to the frame in different ways, as there are mounting holes on several sides. However, it is correct to place them only as shown in the picture below.
Before installing the fasteners above the window glazing beads, I marked with a pencil and drilled holes with drills of a slightly smaller diameter than the complete screws. Instead of two holes, I drilled one at a time and used only one self-tapping screw. Since the blinds are light, this was enough.
Then he took the blinds themselves, inserted them into the mounts and closed them with covers that fit into the grooves in the front of the mounts. Next, it was necessary to mount the lower limiters. They were also attached to one self-tapping screw. Setting the limiters required a fairly high precision in width.
If the restraints are installed a little already necessary, they will be turned out with strips, and when a little wider, the strips will fall out of them.
After installing the limiters, he lowered the blinds and secured them from below with the lower bar - the base. So it became clear which part of the blinds needed to be removed. To remove excess plates on the lower bar, I removed the plugs, pulled out the threads on which the plates were strung and untied the knots.
After removing the bottom plate, the plates are removed very easily. Then it remained to put the bar back on, cut the threads along the length, pack them again, aligning them in height, and close the holes with plugs.
The final touch is to hang the long adjusting handle in the loop.
In general, the installation of blinds seems to be not difficult, but it took at least 30-40 minutes.
It should be noted that closed plastic blinds do not provide complete darkness. Thin white plastic is translucent to some extent, covers well from direct rays and creates a slight twilight.
Another feature is that the position of the knob for adjustment in the models I have selected is only left, which is not convenient for everyone. But for me, as a left-hander, it really comes in handy.
For the price, such blinds are significantly cheaper than metal ones, I don't know how they behave in the sun. But as far as I managed to find out, after a few years they should not turn yellow and break. Share what you think about the installation and experience of using such things.
