Powerful portable solar battery since the USSR
Currently, for tourism (or for giving during an unforeseen power outage) portable folding solar batteries can be purchased to charge the phone:
Their power is from 6 to 80 W - depending on the area of the battery. On a clear sunny day, they will be able to charge a phone, tablet or a small capacity external battery (power bank), power a small radio receiver.
Solar panels come in handy for those who do not yet have electricity on the site, on vacation trips or on long hikes. They are not produced in Russia, and with such a currency rate, the price of a powerful model can be comparable to the cost of the entire vacation trip:
Once in the comments in one of the articles, one of the readers wrote that earlier in the days of the USSR, portable solar batteries were also produced. They were called "Solar silicon battery" (BSK):
Solar battery BSK-3. This is the third modification of portable solar batteries in the Soviet electronics industry. They were produced in the early and mid 80s. For geologists, mountain climbers or anyone else who needed to recharge their radio batteries. Produced by the ZChM plant (Pure metals plant) in g. Svetlovodsk. Today this plant no longer exists.
BSK-3 gave out from 9V to 12V depending on lighting. Rare copies have survived to this day, which are sometimes sold through ads. Cost from 2.5 to 3 thousand. rub.
What current did the BSK-3 solar battery give out, but judging by this video https://youtu.be/1aF8hrI0qwI - in clear weather the IZH-305S tape recorder sounds at a decent volume. This means that it produces a sufficient current of 200-300 mA or more. For those times, these are decent characteristics.
This rather powerful, but compact solar battery had predecessors:
BSK-1. Produces 10.5V and 50mA current. The model of the solar battery BSK-2 looked like this:
Housing with hinged lid. The battery could be positioned at any angle for maximum power generation. The voltage is also 10.5 V. And the current is already 140 mA.
The BSK-1 battery was in the case like the BSK-2 and was called PSK-01 (silicon light converter).
These are far from the only models of solar cells in the Soviet silicon industry.
Solar battery BS-0.5-9. Even from the name it is clear that the power is 0.5 W and the voltage is 9 V. This model was produced by NPK "Photon" Moscow in 1992 With packaging with the words in English fashionable at that time. The notes began to be traced that all the best is Western. Or the solar panel was intended for sale in the west.
Why are these memories of the history and achievements of the Soviet electronics industry? Moreover, if it were not for the collapse of the USSR and the country's economy, then our electronics could be no worse than Western and Chinese manufacturers. At that time, we also had our own televisions, radio tape recorders and power tools. There were many advanced developments, no worse than Western models. And this example with portable solar panels speaks about it.
In the country, there are still factories where monocrystals of silicon used in solar panels are grown. But they have a highly specialized focus. Perhaps, with the exchange rate, it is already more profitable to produce solar panels in our country, and not in China. What do you think?
