I am telling you how to properly plant an Orchid shoot from the stem. Step-by-step instruction
I have been growing orchids for quite some time, so I can share my experience on the most exciting many issues. Many, for example, are confused by such a situation when a shoot appears on the stem of this wonderful plant.
It seems that this is a joyful event, the orchid can be propagated. But at the same time, it is a little scary, because not everyone knows how to do it correctly. I will tell you how I do it.
Firstly, I would like to say that the baby must be separated from the mother plant. Many growers do not want to do this. Sometimes an orchid baby begins to actively develop on its mother plant and even bloom.
But for the mother plant itself, this is very dangerous. It can die. After all, the shoot takes a lot of nutrients and forces from the plant, which, ultimately, can lead to its death.
And, if you do not want to lose an adult mother plant, then the shoot must be planted. But you need to put it off at a certain moment.
When to plant a shoot
· When there are already at least 5 leaves on the shoot. They will help the plant to breathe and feed in the future.
· When the shoot already has its roots, there should be at least 3 of them, and their length should exceed 5 centimeters.
· When the shoot is at least 5 months old. At this time, the period of maturity begins.
If the process is ripe, then you can start separating.
Jigging process
1. First you need to prepare everything you need: garden pruner, 1 tablet of activated charcoal, a little alcohol, a plastic pot with a diameter of about 10 centimeters and with holes in the bottom, a sharp knife or scissors, expanded clay, orchid soil, a weak solution potassium permanganate.
2. Having carefully examined the process itself and the roots, you need to carefully cut off the process from the stem with a disinfected sharp object.
3. The cut site must be treated with a powder prepared from activated carbon.
4. Expanded clay is placed in the pot, a small amount of soil is poured. It should be spilled with a solution of potassium permanganate. A process should be placed in the recess, and then its roots should be covered with special soil. In this case, the roots must be completely closed.
5. The scion is then covered with a plastic bottle to create a greenhouse effect.
6. After 3 days, the shoot can be watered. Previously, the irrigation procedure was not carried out in order to avoid root rot and infection of the cut site.
