A neighbor suggested how to make an imitation of a slate roof from flat slate. Cost 300 rubles / m2
In Europe, you can find old and modern buildings with slate roofs. Slate tiles are a natural and durable material that can serve for 100 years or more. It looks like this:
An interesting option for the roof of the gazebo will complement the style of stone decoration of the barbecue complex.
Its cons: it weight (1 m2 of roof can weigh up to 25 kg), limited color (gray tones) and price: from 3500 rubles / m2. The material is imported and with such a currency rate for a mass buyer is not interesting. But it is possible to make an imitation of a slate roof from flat slate. Moreover, the cost of the roof will be approximately RUB 300 / m2.
To do this, you need to cut sheets of flat slate with a grinder with a disc on the stone into tiles: rhombuses or rectangles. Drill holes for fasteners and you can bite the edges with pliers to simulate chips like on a natural stone. Then treat the torn surface with a grinder with a brush attachment. You do not need to bite, but then the effect of slate will be less pronounced. This is a lot of painstaking work and it makes sense to do this only for a small area of the gazebo roof.
Mounting option:
We are convinced of low prices for such a roof:
Sheet price 1.5x1 m - 340 RUB it 227 rubles / m2. Large sheets are inconvenient to transport and unload - we do not consider them. But since the tiles will be partially one above the other, overlapping up to 20% of the area of the lower tiles (plus fasteners), then the cost of the roofing will be RUB 300 / m2. A little of the sheets will go into scraps when you get a diamond tile. If you cut into rectangular tiles, there will be no scraps.
The cheapest option for metal tiles is from 400 rubles / m2. And the price of noteworthy high-quality sheets with a multilayer coating - from RUB 600 / m2
I wrote about the different quality of metal tiles in this article: And metal tiles are different. Examples from builders
You need to mount the tiles on a crate, mounted in increments, taking into account its size. All joints should be overlapped by the top tiles in a checkerboard pattern.
I will add this idea of a new product for slate production. In Russia, most of the roofing materials market is occupied by slate (if you look at the areas to be closed, and not just the private sector). But mainly wave slate is used for the roof. This is an economy segment in roofing materials. For some reason, manufacturers are not puzzled by market research and experimentation in order to find new products. Unlike Chinese manufactures. Here is an example of simulating a flat slate for a slate roof in China:
I don't think you can tell a natural slate from this tile from afar. And, for example, in our city, at the "Volna" plant, these front panels are produced from flat slate:
Using the same technology, it is possible to produce embossed slate tiles, tiles. Do you think there will be demand?
