Why is it necessary to install a hydro-barrier on the roof in compliance with the technologies, independent work
When erecting the roof structure, I followed all the technologies related to not only the installation of wooden rafters, but also their protection from moisture.
As soon as the last slats were nailed in, I proceeded to lay a special film that acts as a waterproofing.
With its help, I will be able to avoid the formation of condensation in the under-roof zone, which is destructive for insulation (in my case, mineral wool), as it leads to wetting, the formation of mold and putrefactive processes.
I laid the hydro-barrier on the roof myself, observing all the important technologies:
- On the rafter system, I laid out the film in such a way that it was not stretched tight, but sagged quite a bit in the cells. In this way, expansion and contraction of the material will be prevented due to temperature fluctuations in summer and winter.
- I laid the hydro-barrier horizontally, and allowed an overlap of no more than 10 cm between the strips.
- I coated all the joints between the strips of the film with a special sealant.
- The film was fixed to the rafters with nails, which have wide caps. I put pieces of cardboard under the nails, so that the nails would not tear the film and adhere to it as tightly as possible, pressing against the tree.
- At the location of the ridge, the roof, along the entire length, I created a hole designed to remove air flows from the under-roof area. Natural ventilation will prevent condensation and mold formation.
- After installing the hydro-barrier, I began to fill the counter rail. I nailed such elements along the rafters. With their help, I was able to provide additional fixation of the film.
- The next stage was the installation of metal tiles, the organization of hemming, drainage systems.
