Electricity generation stopped at recently launched Belarusian nuclear power plant
Nuclear power plants around the world are being watched closely. Since, in addition to a source of fairly cheap electricity, stations are a source of increased danger in the event of an emergency.
So literally yesterday, the work of the first Belarusian nuclear power plant was stopped, which only recently underwent a solemn procedure for increasing its capacity (with the participation of the President of Belarus).
The first nuclear power plant in Belarus
The Belarusian NPP is the largest joint project of Russian and Belarusian companies. To implement such an ambitious project, a NPP project with VVER-1200 units was chosen, which belong to generation 3+ (which meets all the latest safety standards and reliability).
And according to the plans for the design capacity, the first power unit should come out in the first half of 2021, and the second power unit should reach the design capacity in May 2022.
Why did the station stop
According to official statements of the Ministry of Energy of Belarus, the nuclear power plant was shut down due to the identification equipment requiring replacement (according to information from some sources, the cause was a malfunction of the power transformer).
At the same time, there are no threats to nuclear and radiation safety. And now, according to official data, the procedure for replacing equipment is underway, which is classified as the so-called fourth class of safety.
The situation around the new nuclear power plant is monitored 24/7, because despite all modern safety protocols, one should not forget about the accidents of past years. After all, you will not find a person who does not know about Chernobyl and Fukushima.
